RuPaul Lands Spot On Broad City

Broad City has a lot of reasons to celebrate. The Comedy Central comedy has been picked up not only for a fourth season- but a fifth season as well. The show to the uninitiated follows two Jewish American women living in New York City played by llana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.

Executive produced by Amy Poehler the fourth season is premiering in August on the 23rd, shirking the January / February premier the show usually takes. Funny and riveting it's been praised by critics and fans alike.

RuPaul has been out auditioning for roles. It's unclear if he will be appearing in or out of drag, but Glazer admits that “he's just so delicious. He's like godlike (…) even him doing like, normal shit (…) is just titillating.” The original supermodel of the world has been guest starring on Two Broke Girls, shopping around a sitcom about his life in the 80s and starring as one of the few highlights (along with Ellie Reed) on the Netflix original Girl Boss. And some how he still has time to host Drag Race. Amazing.

American Idol... Returns?

American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest is also in talks to return for the 2018 season of American Idol. In comparison to Katy Perry, the mainstay from the previous seasons is only being offered $10 Million US Dollars for his services

American Idol has only been off the air since last year. The juggernaut saw it's commercial peak wane after Paula and Simon called it quits, and although the forebarer to The Voice, in the words of Nelly Furtado, “all good things must come to an end.” A-List stars Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj couldn't save the show.

Scream Queens got canceled, but somehow American Idol got picked up by ABC- switching networks from Fox- for the 2018 season. You've got a solid 6+ months to get ready to decide if your going to binge this rework. With the reemergence of Will & Grace, Roseanne, Full House, and The Gilmore Girls, to name only a few it's questionable if this brand is heading for a comeback too soon.

So, far all we know is that Katy Perry is on the judging panel for a cool $25 million dollars. ABC is banking on Katy Perry having personality, but global superstars aren't going to give it to the people auditioning good like we want. We need a Simon Cowell. A Natalia Kills to say “as someone who respects creative integrity and intellectual property... I'm disgusted!” Jennifer Lopez was sweet. Same with Britney. We need a little edge and Katy Perry can only kiss a girl so many times for ratings.

Frankie & Grace Returns For Third Season

Last month Netflix released the third season for their original program Frankie & Grace. It follows two recent divorcees played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who end up sharing a beach house in California after they discover their husbands are leaving them- in order to marry each other.

The second season did a better job, then the first in delivering an equal amounts of drama / humor. Grace reunites with her old love. Frankie starts dating a farmer. Their ex husbands get married, talk divorce. Frankie and Grace fight as is only appropriate for a business woman and a hippie forced to cohabitate. Last season ended with the two women's decision to “launch their own business” of “vibrators for geriatric women.”

The third season promises to deliver the laughter and the heart, that manages to deftly deal with social issues- whether that's alcoholism, homophobia, or aging. A cliff hanger is assured, but Netlfix has already announced it's intentions for a 4th season due out next year sometime.

Scream Halloween Special

MTV has one last scare in store for us this 2016. Scream is getting a 2 hour Halloween special to help answer some of season 2's burning questions.

The season finale ended with the arrest of Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini). Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) was shocked and horrified! Who would have guessed her lover and boyfriend was the killer the whole time? He killed her ex, his cousin, and Brooke's main squeeze Jake so I suppose their not getting back together anytime soon.

Unfortunately for Kieran his time in the county jail will be spent with another killer. He wasn't pleased with Kieran for “borrowing his mask” and even in the confines of bars and stripes there will be murder and rampage. The suggestion is that the original, original killer Brandon James is back from the grave. Must be why they didn't find his body in the lake when the police shot him.

The Halloween special airs tonight from 9:00-11:00. It remains unclear whether this will be a prelude to season 3 or if this is MTV's way of wrapping up all the loose plot points in order to cancel the series.

Younger Premieres Third Season

September 28th is a day to put on your calendar. Everyone's favorite TV Land original is back for a third season. Younger is entering another 12 episode season and it leaves us where we left off last time. If you haven't finished season two, all you really need to know is that people still don't know that Liza is actually in her 40's.

Last season you might remember that Liza was almost outed. I'm still shocked someone hasn't called out Sutton Foster's crow's feet, but the whole point of television is to suspend our disbelief. If Liza can convince her employers she's in her twenties, I believe it!

All the hot boys are still in play. Liza's 20 something boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella) is still her main squeeze, although Charles is sooo much more age appropriate. Even if he is her big big boss and Liza's other boss Diana Trout has been in love with him since episode one. Thad (Dan Amboyer) might have been killed by a falling construction crane last season when he was trying to out Liza for being 40 (Gasp!) and he might have left Kelsey (Hilary Duff) sort of heartbroken, but thank God he has a twin brother to keep us interested in.

Younger is the kind of show you binge. It's easy, breezy television. It's already been renewed for a 4th season. The only thing negative to say about the new season is where is the new Hilary Duff song? Last season she covered Fleetwood Mac's “Little Lies” and this season nothing??? UNFORGIVEABLE

All Stars... With A Twist

RuPaul's Drag Race is back for another dragtastic season. Already three episodes in to it's second All Star season, it's almost impossible to separate the winners from the losers. We have some early season queens to throw under the bus, but the rest of the playing field is strong.

Episode one sent home an aging queen and delivered a breakdown from season 6 favorite Adore Delano. RuPaul revealed the biggest twist on this season. The queens aren't in teams. Thank god. They're sending each other home.

No longer will they lip sync for their life. The top placing queens will lip sync for their legacy. The winner then pulls a lip stick case out of her padded cleavage and sends home their least favorite competitor. They also receive $10,000 for every lipsync they win on top of the grand prize of $100,000 if their lucky enough to make it that far.

My early favorites are on Alyssa Edwards, Alaska Thunderfuck, and Katya. Yet there's another twist. One of the dismissed queens will have a chance to get their revenge... whatever that means.

Scream Queens is Back

Everyone's favorite horror/comedy is back for it's second season. Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Abigail Breslin are all reprising their roles as the Chanels. Last season left us with the Red Devil Killer looming over Chanel #1, knife in hand.

The writers assure us that there's a new killer this season and that the Red Devil is not “back”. The show has updated it's set from college to hospital. Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) is heading it up. Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer) is also back to help “save lives”.

All we've seen so far is a snippet of the Chanel's walking down a corridor, but this season is sure to be bloodier and sexier then before. That is if we're to trust Ryan Murphy.

One of the main creators behind the show, he's enlisted John Stamos, Colton Haynes, and Taylor Lautner all to join the cast. His taste in men is hardly awe inspiring, but it is worthy of a GQ shoot. They should all be filling roles as nurses/doctors at the new hospital respectively.

The new season is set three years after the Chanel's got thrown in jail. The year is now 2019 and we'll be able to see what the future looks like as soon as September 20th comes around. Set your TV's for 9:00. We'll have a new Scream Queens and we'll know who the president is.

Girl Scout cookie season is upon us.

That might not be true, but the inspiration behind this blog post is there. Recently, I assisted in a bake sale for the GSA. The Gay Straight Alliance. Not the SGA, or any similarly titled fraternity. We gayed it up and we sold out. It was completely amazing.

Bake sales are the suburban way of taking back their neighborhoods and getting quick investments of out of old white people. We the gays have propagated that in an attempt to add some rainbow to the world.

I got roped into this event. My cooking skills are lacking, but I said to myself I'll help. Then, it came to the week and it was homecoming. I had events. I had tests. I had things to do. Sleep to catch up on. Then, I got corned late night in the library. Bake something. No one's bringing anything. Through my bleary red eyes I agreed, the good person I am.

At home I put some things in the mixer. I decided on peanut butter cookies, because the allergic slut that I am will not be tempted to eat them. I put them in the oven. Set the timer and sit down at the kitchen table and pass out. I wake up to the blearing of the microwave to take out the burning cookies. We sell them for 50 cents each the next day.

I'm a good gay.

The title of this Tasty Tuesday came from the movie Troop Beverly Hills. It's a classic part of my childhood. In an attempt to outsell Velda Plendor and her Red Feathers, Shelly Long has her girls go through out Beverly Hills selling cookies. Cigars! Cigarettes! Cookies! You have to cover all the markets.

There's one part where one of the girls dons a Tina Turner wig and sings her out on the corner of Rodeo Drive singing “It's Cookie Time.” The other girls give her girl group realness and choreographed dancing. Indie rocker, Jenny Lewis is their with her sexy red hair.

It's a movie about wealthy, privileged girls, roughing it in hotel rooms and designer sleeping bags. There's romance. Divorce. Affairs. All of it wrapped up in a PG rating.

Troop Beverly Hills is what powered me through my baking that night. They might have sold boxes of cookies and I might have to bake mine. But, what else could you expect? I live in the wrong zip code and I'm not part of an internationally recognized organization.

I'm sure there was a time when the Girl Scouts actually made their own cookies, used their own ovens. But, those times have passed. Now, preboxes samosas, thin mints, and peanut butter cookies flood the market place to end up in everyone's freezer when they decide they want to put off their weight gain.

The collection of cookies below are tried and true recipes of the good old days that don't come from a plastic wrapper.

RECIPES:
Peanut Butter Cookies
1 ¼ cup of Flour
¾ teaspoon of Baking Soda
¼ teaspoon of Salt
½ cup of Butter
½ cup of Peanut Butter
½ cup of Sugar
½ cup of Brown Sugar
1 Egg
½ teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream the butter, peanut butter, sugar, and brown sugar until it is light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. Add the flour mixture, beating until it is well blended.

Roll the dough into 1 inch balls, roll them in sugar and place them on an ungreased baking sheet, making a criss cross pattern in each cookie with the tines of a fork. Bake for 10 minutes or until they are light brown.

Let cool for 1 minute before removing the cookies to a wire rack to cool.

Butter Cookies
2 ½ cups of Flour
¾ teaspoon of Baking Powder
¼ teaspoon of Salt
1 cup of Butter
2/3 cup of Sugar
1 Egg
1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream the butter and sugar until it is light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. Add the flour mixture, beating until it is well blended.

Bake for 10 minutes or until they are light brown.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 ¼ cup of Flour
1 teaspoon of Baking Soda
½ teaspoon of Salt
1 cup of Butter
¾ cup of Sugar
¾ cup of Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons of Vanilla Extract
2 cups of Chocolate Chips

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees

Combine the flour, baking soda and salt, mixing well. Set aside.

Cream the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until it is light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract mixing well. Add the flour mixture, beating until it is well blended.

Stir in the chocolate chips mixing well. Drop by the teaspoonful onto an ungreased baking sheet, baking for 9-11 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Remove from the baking sheet to a wire rack immediately.
