Nate Parker's directorial debut made it's first appearance at Sundance early this year, but since then The Birth of a Nation has picked up steam for it's nationwide release on October 7th. The title of the film is taken directly from the 1915 silent film, often regarded as the most racist film in history. Nate Parker played hard ball to get the film about Nat Turner onto the big screen. He said he “would never act again” if this film wasn't financed. The film got made and he's starring as the titular character. You might remember from your U.S. History classes that Nat Turner led an unsuccessful and violent slave rebellion. |
