 Tinashe (left) and Britney Spears (right) | Britney Spear’s released the tantalizing music video for her delicious new single off her 2016 album Glory. Aesthetically pushing the limits that “Make Me…” started this era out with, “Slumber Party” is Britney’s new stab to garner radio play at Top 40. “Slumber Party” was not my initial favorite track off Glory (see “Man On The Moon” or “Love Me Down”), repeated listens warranted a warm track that never sounds too dirty despite some aggressive swearing. It’s the kind of track you have a pillow fight to with your girls. Possibly talk shit about boys with your hot cocoa and marshmallows. It’s a mood track. |
On the new album Britney Spear’s has embraced hip hop in a way we haven’t seen since she collaborated with the Ying Yang Twins on “I’ve Got That (Boom Boom)”. It’s not surprising then that the new single has been remixed to feature Tinashe. The R&B starlet, although unlikely to help her gain traction at Top 40 reaffirms Britney’s new foray into this musical direction.
The music video is classic Britney. There’s seduction, choreography, vibrant colors, an orgy, and a fur coat donned Britney Spears that makes “Slumber Party” not only an easy song to put on repeat, but an easy video to put on repeat. The homoerotic twist certainly doesn't hurt anything. It's a Britney we haven't seen, since she french kissed Madonna.

The video also inspired a seasonal themed parody from RuPaul's Drag Race alum Derrick Barry. "Christmas Party" is the perfect update for a soon to be Britney classic that makes it enjoyable year round.
