2016's breakout supernatural comedy hit Ghostbusters was packed with projectile vomiting ghouls, four amazing lead women, and a soundtrack to die for. And, who knew Chris Hemsworth was funny? The album features new music from Zayn. He delivers an easy slice of easy listening with “wHo”. After all who are you going to call when your all alone? Elle King stomps in with her hell raising “Good Girls” and there's enough versions of “Ghostbuster” to make anyone happy. Walk The Moon, Pentatonix, and the original by Ray Parker Jr. all make appearances. |
The most inventive of these new additions is the Fall Out Boy/Missy Elliot collaboration, “Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid)”. It blends their rock n roll inclinations with Missy's flow for one of the most explosive reimaginations. Expect one of these songs to light up radio this year, especially with the movie's continued successs.

Ivy Levan
No Good August 7th Ivy Levan continues a trend that is bound to pick up support this coming year. Her debut album is being released on a Friday instead of the now traditional Tuesday. I have spoken of Ivy Levan on two occasions on this blog. I have to say that I'm obsessed with her and eagerly anticipating this new release.
Some of the production has been handled by Diplo, the man who is half the team behind “Where Are You Now?”, the frenetic “Bitch I'm Madonna”, and two of M.I.A.'s studio releases. He is also featured on No Good on the track “27 Club”. Sting also makes a guest appearance on the highly infectious second single “Killing You”. No Good has the potential to be the anti-pop album of 2015.
See Swamp Biscuits and Lick My Biscuit for further reading on Ivy Levan.

Her music is looming and atmospheric. It has a radio friendliness that Lana Del Rey lacks. Melanie Martinez is the pop Lana (who's album Honeymoon is set for a September release). She plays with all the tropes of a troubled childhood. These themes have become common in the pop landscape with Natalia Kills and Lana Del Rey treading similar territory. However, Melanie plays it with her own vivacity and voice. The character she is portraying is a “cry baby”
The tracklist has yet to be confirmed. However, it is expected that the five preceding singles “Dollhouse” (my personal favorite), “Carousel”, “Soap”, “Sippy Cup” and “Pity Party” are to be included. “Pity Party” also samples the Leslie Gore hit “It's My Party (I Can Cry If I Want To)”. It's going to be a fascinating release.

I can't imagine her becoming a major pop star. At least not at this point in her career, but I certainly do enjoy her music. Two singles have been released from this album so far. “Hurricane” and “Ghost”. My personal favorite is “Ghost”. I think it's the most accessible pop tune here. However, with Ella Henderson's similarly titled hit earlier this year it's hard to imagine it grabbing a foothold.

I can't tell you how happy I was. I was overwhelmed, I was so shocked, that I almost didn't feel anything. It was this numb feeling. It took me about an hour to realize that I could get married now. In every state in America.
The impact of this. This is the moment I've been waiting for in my life, what every gay American has waited for. The validation that we are equal to our heterosexual peers. I spent the better part of the morning listening to Madonna, RuPaul, Betty Who, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Kesha, Britney Spears. Just turn up music.
Obergefell v. Hodges is going to down in history alongside Brown v. Board of Education, Marbury v. Madison, and Elle Woods vs. The State of Massachusetts. Future law students are going to learn about us. And, everything our community has fought for and the struggle that we have incurred to get where we are.
This is certainly not the end. Discrimination in the LGBT community is certainly not over. There is still plenty of things to fight for, but we deserve this celebration. We should celebrate for everyone who didn't get to make it to this day to be with us. We have earned a chance to catch our breaths.
The only thing left for me to do is to change my birth date to June 26th 2015. I'll be nineteen years younger and with some good plastic surgery no one will know the difference. The only problem is that I'll have to change my zodiac sign.
Granted I didn't buy any of those albums. I am working on it. I was trying to save money by not buying music. And, then I bought 20 albums this month, so I think it worked out really well for me.
Florence + The Machine
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful June 2nd
This is going to be my first Florence + The Machine album. I've decided this is going to be my first experience. I've always liked them, but I am obsessed with their song “What Kind of Man”. The music video is great. Florence Welch has very nice breasts by the way. And, if it is representative of the album at all. This is a stellar release.

Britney Spears is covering “Tom's Diner” and that song has already been released. It's an invigorated cover and it's Britney. It's a necessary addition to any album collection. Kylie Minogue was on the lead single “Right Here, Right Now” that although catchy, failed epically. Mikky Ekko is also on the album if you have any interest in him after his duet with Rihanna on “Stay”. This might not be an album for you to buy blind, but definitely look into. Giorgio Moroder has been in the industry for a long time and it's sure to be memorable whether or not it's something you want to turn up to at the gym.

This album should be interesting. This is the only one I'm a little hesitant on buying, but I hope it will be good. I have my fingers crossed. I most certainly will be tweeting and tumblring about if it does not live up to expectations.

Emotion June 23rd
My Rebel Heart is about to explode on March 10th. Mark your calendars. Write it down. If you don't like Madonna. You should probably stop reading this blog. You need to reevaluate your life and you need to buy Rebel Heart.
This is going to be Queen M's 13th studio album. The world is ready. We now have the all the information we will ever have before it comes out. We have the tracklist, the album covers, the lead single, and the songs. If you really want to you can hear every single one of the 25 new Madonna songs. They've all been leaked in their unmastered form. I don't know what that means. I haven't listened to them. I have been a diligent fan and my knowledge of the new Madonna album consists of the six songs she released with the pre-order in December, and the three songs she released the day after the Grammy's in February.
I love it. I love it all. This album is going to be revolutionary and hopefully it will sell like Confessions on a Dancefloor did all those years ago. We could hope for Like a Virgin sales, but no one sells like that anymore. Unless, you happen to be a sexy British soulstress named Adele
It's positively satanic. Mama Madonna is slaying the game. Of course all of it can be explained away with the imagery skills we threw away after high school. The demons literally represent all the struggles one goes through after a break up and how she fights them off and it makes her stronger. It also ends with a very nice Nietzche quote.
"A man is the cruelest animal, at tragedies, bullfights, crucifixions, he has felt the best on earth; and when he invented hell for himself that was his very heaven."
-Friedrich Nietzche
That Grammy performance. Hopefully you watched. I finagled my way out of work early to catch it. If you were on twitter at all you know I was live tweeting the whole thing. Letting you know exactly what I thought during the Grammy's.
Honestly, beside the Madonna performance (where she literally recreated the “Living For Love” video) all you needed to know is that Beyonce was robbed and no one knows who the fuck Beck is. Madonna was vaulted into the air to close out her performance. The only thing more killer that night was Beyonce and her raw vocals.

Me, over here it is not happening. I just don't comprehend social media. It's one reason this blog doesn't have a facebook. No one uses it anyway, and facebook informed me that my name isn't actually Bubbles Utonium. What a bold faced lie. Of course I'm Bubbles. So, needless to say. That just didn't happen. I guess the reason I care about twitter is because it's such an outward reflection of like your position in social media. It clearly states how many you follow and how many follow you. It is vain of me to want more twitter followers to let people know that people read my blog. Granted, I blog about myself and me and the things I like. So, this really shouldn't surprise any of you. I also want more twitter followers, then my former blogmates. Because, I'm a pathetic bitch. I accept this. For a while there I just followed anyone and everyone I wanted on twitter, then I realized my follower count was 16, and me over here was following 91 celebrities. One of my problems is that I don't follow back. If your twitter does not interest me I am not following you. I will not hunt people out, just so they will follow me. I'm sorry. There are a few people on twitter I have followed back. I'm just like you seem cool. Maybe a little basic, but your blonde, I'm blonde. We can get along. Needless to say that ended. I made a hard 80 cuts from my twitter roster. It hurt me. It hurt the people I was closest to, but it had to happen. And magically that day I gained two followers. I thought it was magical. I had finally done something right. This plateaued. Then, I started hashtagging like crazy, and that's where I am today. I use hashtags that don't make sense, and know I have 30 followers. Give or take the few on the fence followers. People on twitter or so finicky. They will just unfollow you. These five Lady Gaga twitters unfollowed me when I mentioned my article on Madonna. It took less then an hour. I wanted to tell them to calm down. You can like Madonna and Gaga as I do. They are not on opposing sides of the world. My newest scheme has been to post screenshots (because, I don't know how to embed) tweets on tumblr. I don't know how successful this is campaign is going, probably because I'm not a funny person naturally, but we shall see. Someone actually did come for little old me on twitter, though. Yes. You better believe it I got in my first twitter feud. Only I didn't respond back directly. I said: And, this person decided to reply: Now, I decided to be the stronger person and tweet out my stance on Miss Azaelia Banks without confronting this person who needs to calm down.
I hope this helped you avoid my pitfalls on social media. I'm sure you'll find your own. But, make it to the top. I'll be struggling through all of them until twitter is replaced with the newest social media.
For people not invested in the process of Madonna's new studio album. It is a lot of information to keep up with. Collaborators, tracklists, instagram pictures. That is why I will try to summarize the event that is sure to hit us in year 2015. For over a year now Madonna has been teasing us with the release of her 13th studio album. It's been a cruel process to the fans. At the start of this year, I thought there was a strong possibility that we could have a new album that summer, maybe later that year. Well, it is no longer later this year. It will be 2015. No release date within 2015, but I think the album is close to done. From the collaborators swirling around in the studio, this album should be EDM inspired. We have Avicii, Diplo, Disclosure, Natalia Kills, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys all as possibilities. Avicii is for all intensive purposes confirmed as a collaborator. I do not approve. Although, it doesn't surprise me that Madonna likes him. His music is derivative of her American Life album. His lack of originality and his critical acclaim bother me as Madonna's similar work was derided by the critics. However. I have chosen to accept him as the Queen has graced him with her presence. Diplo is confirmed. Diplo is just a producer. You probably know some of his work. He's the man behind “Paper Planes”, “Look At Me Now” and “Too Close”. He has guaranteed us that there are three certified smashes from the album with his name attached to it. Now when I listed those three songs earlier and said this is what you should know him for. That is literally all you will know him for. He's worked with other big names, but those are the hits he's attached to. Three.
Now Disclosure is interesting. They're a relatively new production team. I don't particularly care for the Sam Smith fronted “Latch”, still with the right backing vocals (*cough* *cough* Madonna) I'm interested. They said recently to Billboard that they are not working with Madonna, but they would “consider it”. Everyone would consider it. Are you being shady, Disclosure. Are there plans to work with Madonna that you are respectfully choosing not to inform us of. That is my question. I think they are definitely possibilities. I expect to see collaborations from them on her new album. This brings us to a very interesting point. Natalia Kills, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Alicia Keys have been linked to this album. The question is are they appearing on the album as songwriters or featured artists? Natalia Kills I am very up in the air about. She is a wise move for Madonna to team up with. Natalia has that underground pop vibe that could lure the hipsters into looking into a Madonna record. I think a duet or just some backing vocals from Natalia Kills would be great for the album. The same goes for Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Alicia Keys. I like what they bring to the table. Katy Perry has been rumored to have been collaborating with her since their S&M themed V cover shoot last Labor Day. Miley Cyrus's twerking “We Can't Stop/Don't Tell Me” mash up with Madonna this year shows it as a possibility. And, I think it would be a great move. Both Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus draw from different sectors of the pop market. It is too bad that the Queen couldn't have gotten Katy during her Teenage Dream phase. Everything Katy was touching turned multi-platinum, but she will still be useful to her. Nicki and Alicia are collaborators. No question. Who knows what song Alicia Keys will be featured on. This is a rather new announcement made through Madonna. Personally. I'm shocked Nicki is back in the studio with Madonna. I love it. It will be great. Madonna almost never collaborates twice with someone. William Orbit and the producers of her earlier records being the major exceptions. What's great about all these women is that they all draw from different sectors of the pop market. This new album will be big. It will catapult Madonna to the upper echelons. Word has it that Nicki Minaj is doing a rap verse for a song, tentatively titled “Bitch, I'm Madonna”. I hope this song exists. However, in the way of star power. A “Bang, Bang” style trio would be fantastic. Imagine. Lead single. Titled, either “Messiah”, “Living For Love”, “Rebel Heart”, “Sorry Not Sorry” or “Unapologetic Bitch”. I repeat. “Unapologetic Bitch” Featuring: Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus. Yes. Do you feel it. Can you imagine. Shaking at the thought of it. Also in case you weren't aware all of those song titles I threw out there are popular tags Madonna has been adding to her twitter and instagram. Conversely all of those tags could be the title for her new album. It saddens me that the album won't be out this year, but I think it's a good thing for its sales. Madonna is a legend. Legend status doesn't get you on the radio. If anything it's a barrier to get on the radio. Madonna does not need to be fighting the Rihanna's for radio play this holiday season. When the music industry has slowed back down, she should strike. For all intensive purposes, though I think the album is done. A “source” stated that if the album was done there would be sales sheets and other proof it was coming out this year. They said she would have a cohesive plans for music videos and the “look”. Now if anyone does follow her on instagram. Madonna has the look down. She's settled on what this album is. It's just not going to drop. Anyone who suggests that Madonna will drop an album like Beyonce did last year is blindly mistaken. This is Madonna bitch. She is not going to copy someone that shamelessly. The earliest I feel we can hope for any music from this new untitled set is December. An album release in February at the earliest. The first public performance of a lead single at Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve. I would push that forward to the Grammy's in February. Leaving the album to a release date in March or April of 2015. Once, she has a large public performance of her single she can drop the album and go on tour. Drop it like MDNA and link ticket sales to the album. She doesn't need to prove herself anymore and she certainly doesn't need a song on the radio. At this point it's more a point of pride. If however she's going to get on the radio. We need better promotion then what we got for MDNA. And, a better lead single. I love “Give Me All Your Luvin'”, but “Girl Gone Wild” was a better choice. Especially if all America was going to hear of the new album at the Superbowl was that song.
