  | Dua Lipa, the British singer discovered by Lana Del Rey's people, has modelesque looks and a husky voiced youthfulness. She's been a rising sensation, but it hasn't been until the release of her latest single that she's had anything instantly immediate. The closest she'd come before was to the thoroughly enjoyable burner “Hotter Than Hell” “Blow Your Mind” is immediately kinetic. It's more Top 40 aimed then Lana Del Rey's material if you were concerned. The song has the gritty club feel of an early Madonna track. “Blow Your Mind” is the first official release for Dua Lipa in the United States and it's plain to see why. The song is a come on of exploitive self confidence, the chorus capped with a cheeky, “Mwah!” |
The video reeks of behind the catwalk glamour and could easily have been the behind scenes at New York Fashion Week. There's flying flags. Dua Lipa for president? Rainbows? A banner screaming “BLOW YOUR MIND”. It has it's all, even a diamond studded choker with “MWAH” emblazoned as it's design.
Dua Lipa's debut album isn't due out until February of next year, but if she gains traction at radio (as she should) I see her being the breakout star of the fourth quarter of 2016. There's not an emerging artist playing at this level of pop echelon.
