Oscars 2015

Award show season is basically what I live for. I was hoping to do a very similar article for the Grammy's, but I forgot to ask off and I was through some rote manipulation that I got off of work three hours early.

Let me explain the basic set up of this article. I'm writing this on the Friday before the Oscars air. There's going to be a list of all the nominations, with my choice for the win bolded. I'm not going to be picking the one I think is going to win. I'm picking the one I hope will win.

This should get pretty interesting. I haven't seen most of these movies, so I have no frame of reference. Just letting you know that I do not support American Sniper. I am hoping it loses for every single nomination.

All of this is just background noise. I'm going to be live tweeting during the show, I'll be on tumblr, and I'll be amassing the article as I go along. We'll see what it makes up. I'll probably tell you who wins, what was funny, who looks good. It should be great? We'll see. 

Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting the 87th Academy Awards this year and his costar in Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike, is up for best actress.

I've only seen The Grand Budapest Hotel. It was funny. It doesn't deserve best picture. Bette Midler loved Birdman, so I'm going with her opinion.

Lord knows I've only seen one of these, but the director of Boyhood filmed this movie over like ten years to film the lead actor grow up in front of the screen. No one asked him to do that, but that is some dedication. Give the man the award.

The Oscars are starting in two hours and I'm honestly a little tipsy. This should go great. People are coming over in an hour to watch the pre-show and I'm over here with my mudslide. To the casual observer it is chocolate milk. To the person I told there's a splash of vodka and kahlua in it. It's not quite a mudslide, but it's close enough.

The red carpet hasn't started, yet, but if their instagram is accurate. J Lo, Lady Gaga, and Colton Haynes are going to kill it tonight. 

Shout out to Colton Haynes for wearing something other then a black tuxedo to an award show. Of course you can put that boy in anything. Or nothing.

Can we also take a moment to talk about his watch. This is what being a celebrity is about. It's glamour and borrowing a watch that costs more then my minimum wage job will ever pay me. This is the watch I want to be buried in. The watch I want to steal off my husband's night stand when I sign the divorce papers. 

Neil Patrick Harris (aka the host of The Academy Awards 2015) arrived with his husband David Burtka and they looked adorable as usual. 

This is what every couple wants to be cute and desirable and the envy of every other couple in the world. As a single and sad alone person who's a little tipsy. This is really upsetting and really cute and I think I'm ready for the show to start.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed up to the Oscars with a wilted flower on her shoulder.

Neil Patrick timed the race joke perfectly. And of course he decided to sing. If you wanted a Tony's part two, he is giving us that. Anna Kendrick sounds better live then I expected. Jack Black was not necessary. Anna Kendrick made this performance. If I liked musicals, this would be for me. Someone remind the Academy awards that they don't even have a Best Musical catergory this year.

No one understands the joke about Oprah. Neil Patrick Harris tried to connect the Oprah to American Sniper. It made no sense.

Best Foriegn Language Film was a mess. Nicole Kidman introduced the category and she said that we go to the movies and we don't see the barriers that separate us. Obviously she hasn't seen Selma. Then, the man who accepted the award for Ida knew his English and kept pushing his thank you's. As someone who represented Poland in a United Nations competition. It's true. We never shut up. He was basically the Polish Kanye.

I am appreciating that Neil Patrick Harris is changing in and out of costumes as many of his female counterparts would have to do. I also appreciate him showing the in between stages of his wardrobe changes. That's nice.

This was one of the most raw moment of the Grammy's. You should definitely find the video of the live performance Common and John Legend gave. Chris Pine started crying, Oprah had to console someone. And, their acceptance speech high lighted a lot of the race issues prevalent in American society. 

Oh, my god, Gaga. Neil Patrick Harris led into Gaga's performance by saying “Don't miss Lady Gaga, I hear she sings.” He has been throwing shade all night and he does not care. You saw his quick spout on the the inherent racism of the Academy Awards. This man does not care whether he gets the job next year, he just plans on killing it in 2015.

Lady Gaga covered the Sound of Music in the highlight of the night. It was the biggest middle finger that the world has ever seen to anyone has said she can't sing and that she has no talent. Julie Andrews was blown away. I was blown away. The world was blown away. And the dress she changed into was much better then her initial kitchen sink.
