Sheryl Crow, the enigmatic alt-rock purveyor from the 90s is back with a new track that she claims is “going back to her roots.” The singer hasn't released a studio album in four years and “Halfway There” is the first taste of things to come. She has embraced a political narrative, that's been missing in her music since her 2008 album Detours. “Halfway There” doesn't pander to radio trends and it's unclear which format it could dominate. However, that seems to be a point, the new album titled Be Myself eschews the idea that at this point she needs to conform to anything other then what she wants. The hitmaker has paired up with past collaborators Jeff Trott and Tchad Blake to hone the sound she wants. |
