The Summer Blockbuster

To be honest the blockbusters of the summer have never been my highlight. Did I enjoy seeing Ryan Reynolds all muscley in The Green Lantern? Of course. I enjoy a good high action film. I enjoy most movies at the end of the day. These superhero movies get tiresome. 

That's why we're not talking about those. The summer of 2015 has been lined up with blockbusters. Pitch Perfect 2, Mad Max, Terminator Genysis and Jurassic World have killed the box office. At some point I'll get around to actually watching them. We still have more coming this summer way of Ant Man (July 17th) and Fantastic Four (August 7th).

Here's my list of the essential movies you need to make time for.

This is the only movie I'm going to mention that might equal Jurassic World's massive opening weekend of over a half billion dollars in it's entire run. You should know about it. And, yes I should have written an article on it before it came out, but that's not the point. 

Magic Mike XXL

My mother hated the first one. She said that it was “porn with plot”. Needless to say she doesn't know I own a copy of it. She also doesn't know I saw the sequel. Let's be real. This movie is not exactly quality. The first one wasn't exactly the best either, but I enjoy a male driven movie where I get to objectify the men. Now I do wish Channing Tatum had tighter pants on when he wasn't in stripper mode, but that is neither here nor there. If you are attracted to men are just have a thing for Matt Bomer please take the time out to visit your Ken doll in a cool air conditioned theater. 

Inside Out is another that already came out. One of my coworkers cried watching this movie. Boomer and I saw it. He didn't cry. I did. It might be a “kid's movie” and that's why you bring along your niece, that sibling you hate, so you can see it. OR you have a day out with your good friends and you see it as a group. This movie is about your emotions having emotions and it's amazing. Not to mention Mindy Kaling gives voice to one of the characters and I live for her.

I'm less sure on the quality of this movie. It's going to be out June 24th. Supermodel Cara Delevingne is making her first acting debut. If you've been actively reading your Bubble Righted, since it's creation you would be aware that I'm so obsessed with Cara Delevingne that I dedicated a Snapshot Saturday to her.

Hopefully, Cara is either playing herself or a really good actress. We don't need another Madonna. The movie is called Paper Towns and Nat Wolff stars opposite her. It's a mystery romance movie. You might know of it as it is based off of John Green's novel of the same name. This is the man behind The Fault In Our Stars. 

You have been warned.

The general idea is that they are attempting to find this missing girl. Is Cara Delevingne this missing girl? I don't know???? Is she Nat Wolff's gal pal???? I didn't read this book, because I never read. We will will just have to be surprised.

I only have one more movie for you. It's animated and no it's not The Minions. Actually, it's not animated. Fun fact I do my research for these articles as I right them. The movie I was going to tell you about was The Secret Life of Pets. That's coming out July 2016 (a minor hiccup on my part). I will do a proper Media Monday on that when the time comes.

However, in trying to find out why I couldn't find the release date for this movie I stumbled upon something I completely forgot about. I want to see this movie. This is coming out in August on the 14th. It's called Straight Outta Compton.

This movie is going to be the telling of the story of rap group N.W.A. It should be rough and good. I respect N.W.A. But, I've never taken the time to listen to their music. They're a classic rap group. Joyce can get down to some N.W.A. 

This movie is going to be some good shit. This is the rap group that spawned Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. Only two of the most synonymous names with hip-hop. They were banned from a lot of radio. They're explicit. They're good. This movie will be a mess. It stars a list of no names, so we won't be distracted from the story. I'm ready. Bring on the summer.
