Some events warrant commemoration. Last Friday was one of those days. It was June 26th 2015. It was the historic moment where we learned that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing marriage for all sexual orientations.
I was lying in bed. I had just woken up. I had Wendy Williams on. I was watching the hot topics and then it went to commercial break. I opened my laptop to check my twitter, update the world on the fact that my feet felt less broken that morning, when all I see is this positive out pouring of support for the LGBT community. |
Thank you Supreme Court for ruling in favor of love.

The fight for legalizing same sex marriage has been a long arduous road. I don't think it was ever a question of if it was going to happen, but when. It's been 30 years since the AIDS epidemic and I'm so glad that we have reached this historic moment. I'm overwhelmed.
Shout out to the real MVP's in this case. Supreme Court Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kennedy. Without their five votes this case would not have been won. May I say of the other four dissenting Justices: get with the winning team. |
Some fun things we can now do include have immunity from testifying against our spouses, qualify for domestic violence intervention, file income taxes jointly, receive custodial rights of children, alimony, and apply for housing assistance if in a low income family.
Things that still need to be worked on are discrimination against gay adoption and the overwhelming homelessness and suicide rates among LGBT youth. The one thing this court decision does is validate the existence of every gay child who is in an unforgiving household. This decision will help someone who is going through a hard time in their life. God bless those Supreme Court Justices. |
