Niall who? The world may have been caught up in the One Direction's new Ed Sheeran-esque debut “This Town” (for good sentimental reasons), but they clearly missed out on Eden Xo's new single “El Barrio”. The first taste of new music we've had from her since she expertly covered The Thompson Twin's “Hold Me Now. The new slice of electro-pop is just as addictive as her previous material and is hopefully a sign that an EP (Album!?) could be coming soon. After trouble with Virgin Records it's unlikely previous releases “Too Cool To Dance” and “The Weekend” will make appearances. “El Barrio” was worth the wait. It's breathless and has trippy, low budget/high quality visuals reminiscent of underground rapper Brooke Candy. We have flourescent body paint (think Beyonce's “Blow”), a David Bowie space helmet, and a backdrop made out of chicken wire and army blankets. |
Key Lyric: I Go Ape Shit / If I Catch Him With Another Chica The should be hit from Eden Xo could be 2016's “La Isla Bonita”. The Spanish word dropping is reminiscent of the Madonna classic in the best way possible. Musically, the song shares features with the new Weeknd single “Starboy”. We'll know Eden Xo has made it once claims of illuminati start tagging themselves to her latest music visual. Buy "El Barrio"

Since, the public accusations of Johnny's abuse, people have come out of the woodwork to support Johnny Depp and dismiss Amber Heard as a “gold digger whore”. Comedian Doug Stanhope thoroughly supports him saying, “Johnny doesn't abuse anyone.” Clearly he has been in a romantic relationship with Johnny and would know from first hand knowledge. Men behave differently with other men then they do with women.
We let abusive men get away with things in our culture, because of their talent. Woody Allen molested his daughter. Sean Penn beat and almost killed Madonna. Sean Connery beat his wife. The only man we truly seem to hold accountable is Chris Brown and he still holds a thriving career.
Ivy Levan
No Good August 7th Ivy Levan continues a trend that is bound to pick up support this coming year. Her debut album is being released on a Friday instead of the now traditional Tuesday. I have spoken of Ivy Levan on two occasions on this blog. I have to say that I'm obsessed with her and eagerly anticipating this new release.
Some of the production has been handled by Diplo, the man who is half the team behind “Where Are You Now?”, the frenetic “Bitch I'm Madonna”, and two of M.I.A.'s studio releases. He is also featured on No Good on the track “27 Club”. Sting also makes a guest appearance on the highly infectious second single “Killing You”. No Good has the potential to be the anti-pop album of 2015.
See Swamp Biscuits and Lick My Biscuit for further reading on Ivy Levan.

Her music is looming and atmospheric. It has a radio friendliness that Lana Del Rey lacks. Melanie Martinez is the pop Lana (who's album Honeymoon is set for a September release). She plays with all the tropes of a troubled childhood. These themes have become common in the pop landscape with Natalia Kills and Lana Del Rey treading similar territory. However, Melanie plays it with her own vivacity and voice. The character she is portraying is a “cry baby”
The tracklist has yet to be confirmed. However, it is expected that the five preceding singles “Dollhouse” (my personal favorite), “Carousel”, “Soap”, “Sippy Cup” and “Pity Party” are to be included. “Pity Party” also samples the Leslie Gore hit “It's My Party (I Can Cry If I Want To)”. It's going to be a fascinating release.

I can't imagine her becoming a major pop star. At least not at this point in her career, but I certainly do enjoy her music. Two singles have been released from this album so far. “Hurricane” and “Ghost”. My personal favorite is “Ghost”. I think it's the most accessible pop tune here. However, with Ella Henderson's similarly titled hit earlier this year it's hard to imagine it grabbing a foothold.

This is the only movie I'm going to mention that might equal Jurassic World's massive opening weekend of over a half billion dollars in it's entire run. You should know about it. And, yes I should have written an article on it before it came out, but that's not the point.
Inside Out is another that already came out. One of my coworkers cried watching this movie. Boomer and I saw it. He didn't cry. I did. It might be a “kid's movie” and that's why you bring along your niece, that sibling you hate, so you can see it. OR you have a day out with your good friends and you see it as a group. This movie is about your emotions having emotions and it's amazing. Not to mention Mindy Kaling gives voice to one of the characters and I live for her.
You have been warned.
The general idea is that they are attempting to find this missing girl. Is Cara Delevingne this missing girl? I don't know???? Is she Nat Wolff's gal pal???? I didn't read this book, because I never read. We will will just have to be surprised.
I only have one more movie for you. It's animated and no it's not The Minions. Actually, it's not animated. Fun fact I do my research for these articles as I right them. The movie I was going to tell you about was The Secret Life of Pets. That's coming out July 2016 (a minor hiccup on my part). I will do a proper Media Monday on that when the time comes.
This movie is going to be some good shit. This is the rap group that spawned Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. Only two of the most synonymous names with hip-hop. They were banned from a lot of radio. They're explicit. They're good. This movie will be a mess. It stars a list of no names, so we won't be distracted from the story. I'm ready. Bring on the summer.
I can't tell you how happy I was. I was overwhelmed, I was so shocked, that I almost didn't feel anything. It was this numb feeling. It took me about an hour to realize that I could get married now. In every state in America.
The impact of this. This is the moment I've been waiting for in my life, what every gay American has waited for. The validation that we are equal to our heterosexual peers. I spent the better part of the morning listening to Madonna, RuPaul, Betty Who, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Kesha, Britney Spears. Just turn up music.
Obergefell v. Hodges is going to down in history alongside Brown v. Board of Education, Marbury v. Madison, and Elle Woods vs. The State of Massachusetts. Future law students are going to learn about us. And, everything our community has fought for and the struggle that we have incurred to get where we are.
This is certainly not the end. Discrimination in the LGBT community is certainly not over. There is still plenty of things to fight for, but we deserve this celebration. We should celebrate for everyone who didn't get to make it to this day to be with us. We have earned a chance to catch our breaths.
The only thing left for me to do is to change my birth date to June 26th 2015. I'll be nineteen years younger and with some good plastic surgery no one will know the difference. The only problem is that I'll have to change my zodiac sign.
Granted I didn't buy any of those albums. I am working on it. I was trying to save money by not buying music. And, then I bought 20 albums this month, so I think it worked out really well for me.
Florence + The Machine
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful June 2nd
This is going to be my first Florence + The Machine album. I've decided this is going to be my first experience. I've always liked them, but I am obsessed with their song “What Kind of Man”. The music video is great. Florence Welch has very nice breasts by the way. And, if it is representative of the album at all. This is a stellar release.

Britney Spears is covering “Tom's Diner” and that song has already been released. It's an invigorated cover and it's Britney. It's a necessary addition to any album collection. Kylie Minogue was on the lead single “Right Here, Right Now” that although catchy, failed epically. Mikky Ekko is also on the album if you have any interest in him after his duet with Rihanna on “Stay”. This might not be an album for you to buy blind, but definitely look into. Giorgio Moroder has been in the industry for a long time and it's sure to be memorable whether or not it's something you want to turn up to at the gym.

This album should be interesting. This is the only one I'm a little hesitant on buying, but I hope it will be good. I have my fingers crossed. I most certainly will be tweeting and tumblring about if it does not live up to expectations.

The new show is called Younger and it's going to premiere on TV Land on Tuesday's at 10/9 central. I will not be watching as I do not have cable, however I will be buying the first season when it comes out on DVD and there will more then likely be a Friday Favorites on the subject.
Some positives about the show is that it is a female driven cast. More rare then it should be and with the cancellation of Hot in Cleveland, Younger will have to be that strong female lead return. Downsides include that Hilary Duff is not starring in the main role.
What then is the twist in this show? Sutton Foster is actually a recently divorced single mother who is 40, not 20. She is pretending to be younger (hence the title) in order to get a start from the bottom. This show is going to be a mess. I don't know if it's going to be a good mess. Which is why we're going to watch the pilot episode at the end of the month.
TV Land is very hit and miss on their comedy. They nailed Hot In Cleveland. The Exes and Retired at 35 were a mess. Granted I only watched the first episode, but if you don't kill the first episode why do you expect me to watch the second. And, I think the Soul Man is funny, but that's a spin off of Hot In Cleveland. Here's to hoping that TV Land kills it with Younger.

Two queens of the gays are about to make a big comeback in 2015. And, I don't mean Madonna (Of course she is going to slay us with Rebel Heart this March). Not even RuPaul. I swear he tweeted something about the season premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race being a Beyonce.
Does that mean that bitch Shangela is coming back for yet another season of Drag Race or that Ru plans on dropping new music for the hunties. That being said I tried to find the tweet and I didn't see it. Now that could mean it was deleted or I made it up. But, I like the idea of Ru pulling a Beyonce on us. More Ru music the better. The two fan groups who should be gagging are the Animals and the Little Monsters. Both Lady Gaga and Kesha were on a list of singers who might surprise drop a new album. This was last year in 2014 where there were always rumors of surprise albums. 2014 saw Gaga promote her jazz record with legend Tony Bennett and Kesha began her court battle with record producer Dr. Luke. It was an uneventful moment for both them in terms of popular music output.
The release was canceled. Some of the songs recorded included “You're The Reason Our Children Are Ugly”, “You Must Be Upgraded”, and “Futuristic Sex Toys”. I want to hear this release. This rock direction might surprise people who didn't buy her last album Warrior, but I think it's a perfectly natural direction. I don't know if it could be commercially successful, but it is interesting never the less.
With Gaga we should have a straight forward release. That in of itself is questionable. Now hopefully she's on better standing with her record label (which oddly enough also has Madonna on it's roster) and they will promote this new album the way they should have promoted ARTPOP.
The album is being recorded on the road. A new song entitled “Til It Happens To You” that is a duet with Diane Warren is part of the soundtrack for a documentary entitled The Hunting Ground. The film deals with rape and as you know Gaga was raped by a record producer early in her career.
This should be a good start for her new record. He only had one song on her last album and “Gypsy” is a fan favorite (Not my favorite). I don't know if I like her being in a rut. Using the same jumping off point that she's used before. However, she needs to regain the throne.

Going back to a hitmaker is not a bad move. I honestly don't know who I would rather have her work with. Maybe she shouldn't create a dance record. An album of mature pop might not be a bad way to go. This will be her fourth (fifth if you include Cheek to Cheek) album. She so far has not made a huge stylistic change from The Fame to ARTPOP.
Yes. They've all been very different albums. However, at this point her longevity is in question and it might be time to tackle a new field. I think we need a Gaga ballad. Lord knows if Rihanna can have them, Gaga can. An album of slower material (with a few bangers of course) might be a good direction for her. Especially if “Til It Happens To You” is as raw as I think it is. Speaking of Rihanna. We should have her eighth studio album this year sometime in October or November. And, we'll have her voice for the soundtrack of Home. So, if that doesn't make you excited about 2015, I don't know what will.
If we're being really honest I have never read the books. I implied that I read them, but I didn't. I read some really trashy books with some good sex scenes, but spending more then ten dollars on a book with some hardcore BDSM is not for me.
I am here for those less then a dollar, free kindle books. There is one series you all need to read called Big Girls Do It Better. Slay me. The whole series was free when I downloaded it and I loved it. It is a little sad, but it's like empowering. One that I read was kinky as fuck. It was called Stripped, Paddled, and Bound and it was about college hazing. That book was rough, but the cover is everything.
It was not. It was about this boy who was captured by the vikings and turned into a sex slave. Oh, my god it is so nasty and so good. Can't favorite that book enough. And, there are sequels. It's just my idea of a good time. I just enjoy pointless sex stories. Most of them are so awkward and funny. They're great. If you ever need a recommendation, I am here for you.
Like, everything about this movie will be perfect. The soundtrack is something we're all going to buy. You need to hear the Weeknd's “Earned It”. He's the boy who dueted with Ariana Grande on “Love Me Harder”. It's luscious. That's what this song it.
Buy "Earned It"
And, if you have not heard Beyonce's new rendition of “Crazy In Love” for this movie, I am disappointed in you. Because, that means you haven't watched the trailer. What is your life.
![]() Disco is back from the dead. After three dormant decades, it is back with Giorgio Moroder leading the way. You could make the argument that disco never died and that it simply evolved. In Europe this was very true. Disco didn't fade, dance music changed. The United States, however really did have a come to terms with bringing disco down, and it wasn't until Madonna that dance music really came back in vogue. Giorgio Moroder is probably not a household name to most people. Not even those who lived through the highlights of disco. I know who he is, because of his work with Donna Summer. I don't think I've really talked about her on the blog, but I love Donna Summer. Needless to say you will see Giorgio Moroder's name stamped across a lot of Donna Summer hits “Love to Love You Baby”, “Hot Stuff”, “I Feel Love” to name a few. He's an iconic record producer. Quite recently his sound had a surge of popularity when Daft Punk enlisted him for their album, Random Access Memories. It won a Grammy for album of the year, spawned the massive hit that was “Get Lucky”. I was never interested enough to really look into it, but it received phenomenal reviews. Fun fact that he also did the Scarface soundtrack. Jenny knew this for some odd reason. I don't know why, she is surprisingly skilled in knowledge in film scores and soundtracks. Something, I am not. The moral of the story. The reason he is the subject of conversation is that Mr. Moroder is releasing a new album at the age of 74. There will be a slew of guest hit makers, much the way David Guetta and Calvin Harris tailor their albums. At the moment there is no release date, but I will keep you updated. I'm definitely curious about this project. What does this 74 year old man think he can contribute to pop music? I have no idea and that's what is so intriguing, as his last studio album came out over 30 years ago. The same time disco died. He is now back, and about to let us have it? Collaborators include: Britney Spears, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Sia, Mikky Ekko, and Foxes. Obviously, I am excited for new Britney music as the rest of the world is. I'm kind of bored with Charli to be honest. I am considering buying Sucker next week, though. I still haven't decided. Kylie Minogue is irrelvant to Americans. There's no reason Giorgio shouldn't enlist hit maker Sia, especially with her recent chart successes. As far as Mikky Ekko and Foxes go. I don't really have anything against it. I thought Mikky Ekko's career had flat lined after his duet with Rihanna, so if he can get his name back out there he might finally drop that solo album. Who even knows what's happening with Foxes. She sang “Clarity” for Zedd and now she's on a veteran producers album. I suppose that's exciting for her. I have no interest in her career. If it blows up, I will take note, until then. I have better things to do. One song has been released from the album so far. It is mainly instrumental, but it has me interested in this new project. It's called “74 is the New 24”. I don't know if I would go that far. |
