21 year old DJ Martin Garrix who broke out onto the scene with instrunmental dance hit “Animals” has been having a string of success lately with collaborations with Bebe Rexha (“In The Name of Love”) and emerging pop star Dua Lipa (“Scared To Be Lonely”) and he's hoping to bring that same kinetic star power to Troye Sivan. The Australian singer who made marginal impact with “Youth” back in 2015. Martin has described Troye as a “brother” and the two pair together effortlessly on this new track of sentimental love. The song retains what the two do the best. Troye's wide eyed long sick lust for love and Martin's ear for honed mainstream EDM. |
Key Lyric: Last Year Took A Toll On Me / But I Made It With You Next To Me The music video has already dropped and it has it all. The quintessential San Francisco skyline, black nail polish, flowers, and a hoard of rave ready fans waiting for the drop. Troye Sivan may be about to have his biggest hit stateside yet. Most of the songs play with being on the brink of love and not quite getting there. Her attention gathering song “Touch” finds her running into a past lover and seeing the love but recognizing that something's changed. They can't be what they were. “Touch” was released almost two years ago, but just as recently as February found itself given the video treatment with some extra verses from rapper Talib Kweli. It's jarring to find him parring off against, Shura's light breathy vocals. That's possibly the reason that version was left off the album, but it shows a record labels well defined need for a radio hit. Buy "Touch" The well versed “2 Shy” deals with youth and friendship and a want for something more, but the fear of anything changing. It's blissful and sweet and it's no surprise it was chosen as a single from the album. Buy "2Shy"
It's no surprise then that you can find Shura opening for Tegan and Sara when they tour North America this year. Her music will coincide with what their fans already listen to. The album standout is “What's It Gonna Be?” The same questions are asked. Do I tell I love you? If you say no let me down gently. The song itself never answers the questions, but that's what we have music videos for. It has a high school setting. It plays with our heteronormative values. Shura and her best friend find love. Her with the beautifully intelligent girl in Chemistry and him with the preppy boy with the good hair on the sports team.

My suggestion to Kesha was to release a greatest hits. Tack on one new song. Drop that greatest hits and get out of that contract. Jennifer Lopez satisfied her recording contract with Island by doing that. Madonna did the same with Warner Bros.
I didn't realize she had three more albums to record with Dr. Luke. If you don't know who he is. He's the force behind some of the biggest hits in pop music. He's worked with Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Nicki Minaj. All the greats. He's part of the reason for Kesha's mainstream success. As of right now Kesha has never had a single miss the top 40. That's amazing.
This case should have been solved a long time ago. Her testimony is graphic and even if it wasn't it seems unlikely that Kesha would lie about this. For what gain? Dr. Luke made her a superstar. She isn't trying to get away from someone who's unable to produce her hits. She's getting away from her abuser.
It's absolutely disgusting that Sony is siding with a rapist who took advantage of one of their artists instead of choosing to support her, they have set the precedence that rape and molestation is acceptable as long as you produce hits.
Granted I didn't buy any of those albums. I am working on it. I was trying to save money by not buying music. And, then I bought 20 albums this month, so I think it worked out really well for me.

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful June 2nd
This is going to be my first Florence + The Machine album. I've decided this is going to be my first experience. I've always liked them, but I am obsessed with their song “What Kind of Man”. The music video is great. Florence Welch has very nice breasts by the way. And, if it is representative of the album at all. This is a stellar release.

Britney Spears is covering “Tom's Diner” and that song has already been released. It's an invigorated cover and it's Britney. It's a necessary addition to any album collection. Kylie Minogue was on the lead single “Right Here, Right Now” that although catchy, failed epically. Mikky Ekko is also on the album if you have any interest in him after his duet with Rihanna on “Stay”. This might not be an album for you to buy blind, but definitely look into. Giorgio Moroder has been in the industry for a long time and it's sure to be memorable whether or not it's something you want to turn up to at the gym.

This album should be interesting. This is the only one I'm a little hesitant on buying, but I hope it will be good. I have my fingers crossed. I most certainly will be tweeting and tumblring about if it does not live up to expectations.

No fucking idea. Probably some hybrid of what's made Iggy famous. A few rap verses and a ready to kill chorus, that Britney Spears saunters over and proceeds to suffocate the Australian rapper with. I almost hate to admit the fact that they both need a hit. This isn't Britney Spears giving Iggy an up and come up. Britney needs this as bad as Iggy.
The last Britney album, Britney Jean, went largely under appreciated, despite the icon status that “Work Bitch” should be given. This residency tour is sucking the life out of Britney and the album was not promoted the way it needed to be. And, as a member of the Britney Army. It failed.
Now, I don't think Iggy is dead and done for. But, right now her career tombstone is reading 2014-2014. Her tour got canceled. Opening acts Nick Jonas and Tinashe dropped out. Tinashe proceeded to join Nicki Minaj. Like god damn. Punch the Australian in the kangaroo already. And, if you read my music reviews from last year, you know I was underwhelmed by The New Classic.
That said Shakira is playing the same card as Britney. Shakira is also rumored to be working on a single with the Australian rapper. Now, why Shakira thinks this will work when she couldn't even get a top ten hit out of a song with Rihanna on it, I don't know.
End of a long story. This song is going to slay. I don't doubt that. Apparently Iggy is going to be releasing a new album this year and this is the kick off single. Someone should probably explain to Iggy that if this was her song it would “Iggy Azalea & Britney Spears” instead of “Britney Spears featuring Iggy Azalea”. Sit down.
Now Britney said she is not planning on releasing a new album this year, but if this song is a hit. You better believe will have an October/November release. Britney doesn't write her own music. Some good producer will whip up a few songs. She'll put her vocals over it and we will have classic Britney.
Cross your fingers that “Pretty Girls” is the anthem we've been waiting for.
Two queens of the gays are about to make a big comeback in 2015. And, I don't mean Madonna (Of course she is going to slay us with Rebel Heart this March). Not even RuPaul. I swear he tweeted something about the season premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race being a Beyonce.
Does that mean that bitch Shangela is coming back for yet another season of Drag Race or that Ru plans on dropping new music for the hunties. That being said I tried to find the tweet and I didn't see it. Now that could mean it was deleted or I made it up. But, I like the idea of Ru pulling a Beyonce on us. More Ru music the better. The two fan groups who should be gagging are the Animals and the Little Monsters. Both Lady Gaga and Kesha were on a list of singers who might surprise drop a new album. This was last year in 2014 where there were always rumors of surprise albums. 2014 saw Gaga promote her jazz record with legend Tony Bennett and Kesha began her court battle with record producer Dr. Luke. It was an uneventful moment for both them in terms of popular music output.
The release was canceled. Some of the songs recorded included “You're The Reason Our Children Are Ugly”, “You Must Be Upgraded”, and “Futuristic Sex Toys”. I want to hear this release. This rock direction might surprise people who didn't buy her last album Warrior, but I think it's a perfectly natural direction. I don't know if it could be commercially successful, but it is interesting never the less.
With Gaga we should have a straight forward release. That in of itself is questionable. Now hopefully she's on better standing with her record label (which oddly enough also has Madonna on it's roster) and they will promote this new album the way they should have promoted ARTPOP.
The album is being recorded on the road. A new song entitled “Til It Happens To You” that is a duet with Diane Warren is part of the soundtrack for a documentary entitled The Hunting Ground. The film deals with rape and as you know Gaga was raped by a record producer early in her career.
This should be a good start for her new record. He only had one song on her last album and “Gypsy” is a fan favorite (Not my favorite). I don't know if I like her being in a rut. Using the same jumping off point that she's used before. However, she needs to regain the throne.
Buy "Gypsy"
Going back to a hitmaker is not a bad move. I honestly don't know who I would rather have her work with. Maybe she shouldn't create a dance record. An album of mature pop might not be a bad way to go. This will be her fourth (fifth if you include Cheek to Cheek) album. She so far has not made a huge stylistic change from The Fame to ARTPOP.
Yes. They've all been very different albums. However, at this point her longevity is in question and it might be time to tackle a new field. I think we need a Gaga ballad. Lord knows if Rihanna can have them, Gaga can. An album of slower material (with a few bangers of course) might be a good direction for her. Especially if “Til It Happens To You” is as raw as I think it is. Speaking of Rihanna. We should have her eighth studio album this year sometime in October or November. And, we'll have her voice for the soundtrack of Home. So, if that doesn't make you excited about 2015, I don't know what will. So, day two of the 12 Days of Bubbles continues. At this point we are all rushing around, trying to get those Christmas presents done, and out of the way. I know this is finals week. That is going how it is going. The only thing keeping all of us going is knowing that soon we will have Christmas upon us and that at the end of the month we're going to get so wasted and kiss the loves of our lives at midnight. That, however is not what is getting me through this week. Friday, I am ready. This Friday on the 19th, the remake of Annie is coming to theaters near you. I am so ready.
The music should be interesting. You've got Jay-Z backing up this soundtrack as producer, and you should know he killed The Great Gatsby Soundtrack. Now, I don't know if Jamie Foxx will be singing. I don't really want him to. That little girl Quvenzhané Wallis is also starring as Annie. She's the one who won that Academy Award or almost one that Academy Award. I don't know. I had to google her name. That's a hot mess right there. Until she hits Angelina Jolie level, I don't think I'll get her name down. Needless to say if I'm not too busy blogging away for the 12 Days of Bubbles, I will be in the front row to see Annie on the 19th. Now the movie I am just so ready for is also a musical. Now, I do not like musicals. Like I tolerate them, but I don't like them per say. But, on the 25th of December, I will not be in the theater, but I will be thinking about being front row and center to see Out of the Woods. More then likely I'll see it with the Mayor and Miss Sara Bellum. They love the theater as much as I do not. It is a star studded cast. Meryl Streep is in it. Harkening back to the days of Mamma Mia! A musical that legitimately is my shit. This musical is a mash up of fairy tales. That includes Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, and Johnny Depp. If you saw Pitch Perfect you know who Anna Kendrick is, if you've listened to the radio at all you know “Cups”. She's really funny. Her twitter is to die for. I live for Emily Blunt. She was that really bitchy secretary in The Devil Wears Prada and ever since then I've just lived for her. I follow her career. I shamelessly stalked her wedding to John Krasinski. She's like the love of my life. Of course everyone is down for some Johnny Depp. Then, Chris Pine is in it. Not Chris Pratt, but Chris Pine is not bad to look at. He's douche bag hot. You know what I mean? Like he's hot, but he knows he's hot. And he's kind of an asshole. Either way, I do not mind seeing him in front of me when I watch this movie.
No matter what happens, Orlando Bloom will be in this movie. And, I have never been more attracted to him, then when he had that long straight white hair. Like, god damn. It also didn't hurt that he was the only clean person in the entire movie.
Disco is back from the dead. After three dormant decades, it is back with Giorgio Moroder leading the way. You could make the argument that disco never died and that it simply evolved. In Europe this was very true. Disco didn't fade, dance music changed. The United States, however really did have a come to terms with bringing disco down, and it wasn't until Madonna that dance music really came back in vogue. Giorgio Moroder is probably not a household name to most people. Not even those who lived through the highlights of disco. I know who he is, because of his work with Donna Summer. I don't think I've really talked about her on the blog, but I love Donna Summer. Needless to say you will see Giorgio Moroder's name stamped across a lot of Donna Summer hits “Love to Love You Baby”, “Hot Stuff”, “I Feel Love” to name a few. He's an iconic record producer. Quite recently his sound had a surge of popularity when Daft Punk enlisted him for their album, Random Access Memories. It won a Grammy for album of the year, spawned the massive hit that was “Get Lucky”. I was never interested enough to really look into it, but it received phenomenal reviews. Fun fact that he also did the Scarface soundtrack. Jenny knew this for some odd reason. I don't know why, she is surprisingly skilled in knowledge in film scores and soundtracks. Something, I am not. The moral of the story. The reason he is the subject of conversation is that Mr. Moroder is releasing a new album at the age of 74. There will be a slew of guest hit makers, much the way David Guetta and Calvin Harris tailor their albums. At the moment there is no release date, but I will keep you updated. I'm definitely curious about this project. What does this 74 year old man think he can contribute to pop music? I have no idea and that's what is so intriguing, as his last studio album came out over 30 years ago. The same time disco died. He is now back, and about to let us have it? Collaborators include: Britney Spears, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Sia, Mikky Ekko, and Foxes. Obviously, I am excited for new Britney music as the rest of the world is. I'm kind of bored with Charli to be honest. I am considering buying Sucker next week, though. I still haven't decided. Kylie Minogue is irrelvant to Americans. There's no reason Giorgio shouldn't enlist hit maker Sia, especially with her recent chart successes. As far as Mikky Ekko and Foxes go. I don't really have anything against it. I thought Mikky Ekko's career had flat lined after his duet with Rihanna, so if he can get his name back out there he might finally drop that solo album. Who even knows what's happening with Foxes. She sang “Clarity” for Zedd and now she's on a veteran producers album. I suppose that's exciting for her. I have no interest in her career. If it blows up, I will take note, until then. I have better things to do. One song has been released from the album so far. It is mainly instrumental, but it has me interested in this new project. It's called “74 is the New 24”. I don't know if I would go that far. For people not invested in the process of Madonna's new studio album. It is a lot of information to keep up with. Collaborators, tracklists, instagram pictures. That is why I will try to summarize the event that is sure to hit us in year 2015. For over a year now Madonna has been teasing us with the release of her 13th studio album. It's been a cruel process to the fans. At the start of this year, I thought there was a strong possibility that we could have a new album that summer, maybe later that year. Well, it is no longer later this year. It will be 2015. No release date within 2015, but I think the album is close to done. From the collaborators swirling around in the studio, this album should be EDM inspired. We have Avicii, Diplo, Disclosure, Natalia Kills, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys all as possibilities. Avicii is for all intensive purposes confirmed as a collaborator. I do not approve. Although, it doesn't surprise me that Madonna likes him. His music is derivative of her American Life album. His lack of originality and his critical acclaim bother me as Madonna's similar work was derided by the critics. However. I have chosen to accept him as the Queen has graced him with her presence. Diplo is confirmed. Diplo is just a producer. You probably know some of his work. He's the man behind “Paper Planes”, “Look At Me Now” and “Too Close”. He has guaranteed us that there are three certified smashes from the album with his name attached to it. Now when I listed those three songs earlier and said this is what you should know him for. That is literally all you will know him for. He's worked with other big names, but those are the hits he's attached to. Three.
Now Disclosure is interesting. They're a relatively new production team. I don't particularly care for the Sam Smith fronted “Latch”, still with the right backing vocals (*cough* *cough* Madonna) I'm interested. They said recently to Billboard that they are not working with Madonna, but they would “consider it”. Everyone would consider it. Are you being shady, Disclosure. Are there plans to work with Madonna that you are respectfully choosing not to inform us of. That is my question. I think they are definitely possibilities. I expect to see collaborations from them on her new album. This brings us to a very interesting point. Natalia Kills, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Alicia Keys have been linked to this album. The question is are they appearing on the album as songwriters or featured artists? Natalia Kills I am very up in the air about. She is a wise move for Madonna to team up with. Natalia has that underground pop vibe that could lure the hipsters into looking into a Madonna record. I think a duet or just some backing vocals from Natalia Kills would be great for the album. The same goes for Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Alicia Keys. I like what they bring to the table. Katy Perry has been rumored to have been collaborating with her since their S&M themed V cover shoot last Labor Day. Miley Cyrus's twerking “We Can't Stop/Don't Tell Me” mash up with Madonna this year shows it as a possibility. And, I think it would be a great move. Both Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus draw from different sectors of the pop market. It is too bad that the Queen couldn't have gotten Katy during her Teenage Dream phase. Everything Katy was touching turned multi-platinum, but she will still be useful to her. Nicki and Alicia are collaborators. No question. Who knows what song Alicia Keys will be featured on. This is a rather new announcement made through Madonna. Personally. I'm shocked Nicki is back in the studio with Madonna. I love it. It will be great. Madonna almost never collaborates twice with someone. William Orbit and the producers of her earlier records being the major exceptions. What's great about all these women is that they all draw from different sectors of the pop market. This new album will be big. It will catapult Madonna to the upper echelons. Word has it that Nicki Minaj is doing a rap verse for a song, tentatively titled “Bitch, I'm Madonna”. I hope this song exists. However, in the way of star power. A “Bang, Bang” style trio would be fantastic. Imagine. Lead single. Titled, either “Messiah”, “Living For Love”, “Rebel Heart”, “Sorry Not Sorry” or “Unapologetic Bitch”. I repeat. “Unapologetic Bitch” Featuring: Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus. Yes. Do you feel it. Can you imagine. Shaking at the thought of it. Also in case you weren't aware all of those song titles I threw out there are popular tags Madonna has been adding to her twitter and instagram. Conversely all of those tags could be the title for her new album. It saddens me that the album won't be out this year, but I think it's a good thing for its sales. Madonna is a legend. Legend status doesn't get you on the radio. If anything it's a barrier to get on the radio. Madonna does not need to be fighting the Rihanna's for radio play this holiday season. When the music industry has slowed back down, she should strike. For all intensive purposes, though I think the album is done. A “source” stated that if the album was done there would be sales sheets and other proof it was coming out this year. They said she would have a cohesive plans for music videos and the “look”. Now if anyone does follow her on instagram. Madonna has the look down. She's settled on what this album is. It's just not going to drop. Anyone who suggests that Madonna will drop an album like Beyonce did last year is blindly mistaken. This is Madonna bitch. She is not going to copy someone that shamelessly. The earliest I feel we can hope for any music from this new untitled set is December. An album release in February at the earliest. The first public performance of a lead single at Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve. I would push that forward to the Grammy's in February. Leaving the album to a release date in March or April of 2015. Once, she has a large public performance of her single she can drop the album and go on tour. Drop it like MDNA and link ticket sales to the album. She doesn't need to prove herself anymore and she certainly doesn't need a song on the radio. At this point it's more a point of pride. If however she's going to get on the radio. We need better promotion then what we got for MDNA. And, a better lead single. I love “Give Me All Your Luvin'”, but “Girl Gone Wild” was a better choice. Especially if all America was going to hear of the new album at the Superbowl was that song.
