Luxury fashion has recently divested in whimsical designs and presentation. The January issue of Vogue has the headline “Optimism: Fashion's Bright New Age” as one of it's leading articles and the concept of whimsy certainly files under that broad heading. This whimsical approach can be seen in the hearts Burberry put on their trench coat or how Dolce & Gabbana has employed cartoon mascots of their namesake creators to use on their social media. |
Their men's capsule collection is titled “Faces” (search #FendiFaces on social media). It has a distinctly more aggressive look, but in no less whimsical. It borders childlike, but that once again is the point of the look. Their men's take on whimsy works with the three primary colors of red, blue, and yellow. I don't take to it as much as the women's, but the cuff links in this capsule collection are inspired. For their men's looks, the accessories work better then the full statement pieces. The shirts and tennis shoes they've put together are arbritary. The belt, the backpacks on the other hand offer the perfect amount of playful macho-ism to make them worth the purchase. |
