Beth Ditto is BACK! Her new collection is helping to combat the weight bias so integral to the fashion community. Tish Weinstock wrote for i-D of the collection that it's “bigger, bolder, and better than ever before.” That statement is undoubtedly true. Beth Ditto is the former punk fronting lead singer for Gossip, a band more renowned in Europe then in her native country. The cover art for their single “Pop Goes The World” tongue in cheek had “Singer For Gossip: Happy With Her Weight?” emblazoned on it along with other scandalous headlines. |
This new collection (like the last) is not about hiding the body God gave you, but instead about reveling in it and loving it and showing it off- all in bold colors and prints. The theme for this collection is very fashion forward. False eyelashes, nail polish, pencil shavings all litter the designs for this vibrant exclamation of self love. There are 11 pieces in the capsule collection and the sizes run 14-28. Standouts include the cocoon coat, controversy dress, and the eyelash sweater. You can shop all of her designs here.

Rihanna's brand ambassadorship with Dior has lead to her putting input into a new sunglasses collection titled “Rihanna”. Their futuristic and reportedly inspired by Star Trek, specifically the character La Forge. She also lent her voice to the movie with the single “Sledgehammer”. The sunglasses are one good paycheck away from being in your wardrobe. One frame comes in six different colors and retails for $840, while the other 24 Karat plated shade will be locked up for $1,950. Dior may still not have a creative director, but who needs a creative director when you have Rihanna.
News about new music from Jennifer Lopez has been hush hush. She recently signed back to Epic records. Her home away from home and where she had the majority of her nine, top 10 hits. LA Reid was the musical powerhouse behind her change. He not only judged on X-Factor, but is also one of the most important men in music bolstering the careers of both Paula Abdul and P!NK.
The new song does seem to end the rumors of a supposed Christmas album or an album entirely in Spanish. Although, the year is young and never say never. In 2007 she released two albums barely months apart. And, the new Jennifer Lopez creation could always be bilingual ala Enrique Iglesias and Shakira. That would also be a return to form as we haven’t had a smattering of Spanish her music since her eponymously titled multiplatinum blockbuster J.Lo.
The cover art scintillates as it should. We have some good beachy hair. Curls and all. A look she’s been rocking recently. It’s classic black and white. All chromatic. That hat screams Martha Vineyards realness and I live.

“Savages” is the first and titular track of Five Knives first album. Despite their name, they're not a hard rock band. This isn't a Marilyn Manson record. However, they do seem to play with that aesthetic. They have leather jackets, post apocalyptic worlds, and a mohawk.
This band is hardly famous. They don't have a wikipedia page. The only trace of them online is their own website and that of their record label Red Bull Records, a record label that's biggest hit was AWOLNATION's “Sail”.
On drums Five Knives has Shane Wise, Zach Hall carries guitar, and Nathan Barlowe is behind the guitar and bass. Both Zach and Nathan share their skill in keys, programming, and BGV's. Whatever that is.
Anna lends the band a voice that makes their music more mainstream oriented then similar work done by beleaguered industrial pop artist Black Porcelain. At times her voice even recalls the wailing of The Ting Tings fronted Katie White.
Be sure to check out their kick off song “Savages”. It's the most streamlined and certainly the best off the album with a fun video full of debauchery to keep your spirits up.

Picture it. It's about August 31st and I'm going through my twitter feed and I see that Havana Brown is talking about her song “Battle Cry”. I'm fan girling of course. This song is fucking amazing. I am living. I am living for the video.

This blogger Nick Tredrea reviewed her song and it was a short little piece, but all of his reporting was on point. So, I was like why not read more of his blog. I ended up reading every single thing over the course of two days. It was a holy experience if I'm being brutally honest.

I would like to imagine that this is what my blog would be like if I was Australian, but it would not be nearly as entertaining.
He also has a YouTube channel. Right now there's only a few videos. I don't know what the posting schedule is. I think it's funny. I really enjoyed it. It's certainly better then mine.

It appears to be working. The show has already been renewed for a second season, although it remains unclear if it will be a continuation of this plot line of if it will center around a new cast much like American Horror Story.
Mr. Branson: The Teacher
Most of these actors don't have wikipedia pages and there acting is two dimensional. The characters are wooden and predictable. The popular jocks and girls and the outsiders. The people who don't fit in. The boy who just moved to town. The hot teacher. Sex obsessed students. Wild parties.
It works. I'm obsessed with this show. I anticipate every Tuesday. This show is a self aware drama. The students are taking an American Gothic literature class and one of them explains that a slasher show “just wouldn't work”. In fact MTV has marketed it on this point. And, in truth one person was hanged. Not slashed
I saw one person say it was going to be the teacher. They were like its “so obvious” and I was just like is it? Is it really? I have no guess at this moment. I'm just enjoying the ride.
We also don't have enough main characters to kill one person every week. There was one episode where we only killed one person and I'm just wondering how this is supposed to work. And, I'm supposed to be invested in these people. Just to have them axed. I don't know how much I'm about that life. But, I'll be watching.
Cherie Cheezcake has started watching this show along with Black. It is the five star experience across the boards. I know we're already half way through the season, but you can catch up on MTV.
Watch the first episode here.
“That's a metaphor for the vagina.”
But, is it though?
It honestly did not come as a surprise to me, but I was channeling English teacher when I finally realized the “biscuit” that Ivy Levan was talking about was her vagina. My professor makes everything sexual and I want to whip my chinese fan out at her and say NO.
She's also a model. No surprise there. I love a good model. I just really like her look and her aesthetic. She has three music videos that play into this 50's screen siren look and I like them all. The music is not quite as catchy as “Biscuit”, but they don't disappoint.
My personal favorite is “The Dame Says”. It doesn't have a music video, but the lyric video is disturbing enough for all of us. Now, I haven't searched her name on Tumblr. I want to live for her music before I found out how problematic she is and all the reasons I shouldn't like her. And, she is a southerner. I'm sure they can find something.

I could be just as pretty as her. I just see stills of her and I'm like “Hot DAMN” (a title of one of her songs). No word yet on when or if she's releasing an album this year. But, we shall see.

The interview was a disappointment. It didn't tell me anything I wanted to know. What is the status on her new album. Are we getting a new song soon. It turned out to be "Sparks" (I thought it was going to be “Tattoos”). I wanted to know about the new music, but the reason she was on the cover was to talk about Younger and I'd already done my research on that. The interview may not have satisfied my needs, but it served it's purpose.
Now, I've never gotten a subscription, but this April issue of Cosmo has convinced me to change my mind. I've always loved how girl power this magazine is. It's inspiring. Yes, there's some insane sex tips, but who doesn't enjoy good sex tips? Every single one of them is off the wall and I love it. Their fashion advice can be questionable, but I've been conflicted by even the offerings of Vogue recently
I hadn't heard of this law, but it's basically the opposite of “No Means No”. The argument was that “no means no” wasn't working, so in order for it to be consensual sex you needed an affirmative “yes”. I think it's a really cool law and I would definitely suggest reading the article if you can find a copy of it.
This is really the kind of article that needs to be in magazines. This is addressing a problematic and prevalent social issue and discussed what was being done to fix it. I really like this concept of you need someone to say “yes” or it's rape. I really like that, because “no means no” was not working. You can say “no” and it doesn't stop anything. This law also touches points on just because you've had consensual sex before with someone doesn't mean that you wanted to have sex with them again
Honestly, I'm kind of obsessed with this law. I just think it's amazing and now I'm subscribed to Cosmo. The subscription is also dirt cheap. It's like five dollars. That's what it costs to buy one of those on the newsstand. Subscribe with me. It's a fun magazine with some really great articles and I support it.
“Sparks” features a fun little whistle. It calls back to mind when “Pumped Up Kicks” was the ruling the radio and it had that whistle in it. I think “Sparks” is seriously catchy and it has that hit potential that I love. Hilary Duff needs a new hit or we're never going to get her new album.
I think “Sparks” is a return to form in the pop world. I personally love “All About You” and I think it had hit potential. I don't know why it didn't take to radio the way it should have. I think “Sparks” can be that hit she's looking for. One of her cowriters on the song is Tove Lo. She sang “Stay High” and her new song “Talking Body” might be her next big hit. This collaboration is working.
Bloodshy is also part of this production team. He's a record producer behind Britney Spears hit “Toxic” and Madonna's much celebrated Confessions on a Dancefloor. This is a good projectile to get Hilary that hit.
I really like the song. I like the lyrics. I think there sexy and cute and adorable. I'm really feeling this song. It's also being used as the theme for Hilary's new show Younger. Which is killing the game. No news yet on whether it's the ratings success TV Land has been hoping for, but so far it's been maintaing steady views.
Definitely check out Hilary's new song and watch Younger every Tuesday at 10/9 central on TV Land

It should come as no surprise that there is a special edition of Friday Favorites on the Madonna album that just dropped this week. Now, if you didn't know Madonna was dropping this album. I don't know where you have been. My blog might as well be renamed “madonnna.com”
Of course I bought Queen M's latest release, her 13th album. I spent far too much money on it. I got the super deluxe edition and $30 down and two hours later I have finally finished listening to a masterpiece. At the end of the year I do reviews of every album I've bought released during that year. It gives time to really live with the album, but I know this is going to be one of my favorite releases so far. Critics have been calling it a perfect blend of what MDNA and Hard Candy were not. These were the two albums Madonna previously released. I love both of these albums and it always annoys me when people talk bad about them. These albums are almost always described as a desperate attempts to remain relevant. The point of a pop star is being relevant. I don't understand the criticism.
I disagree with the assertion that this album is the culmination of what these two albums failed at. I really like Rebel Heart. It does run long with at over seventy minutes if you get the deluxe edition. It is ballad heavy, but the ballads are good. A few more frentic Diplo numbers would not be something I would be opposed to, but the record as a whole is solid.
It will be hard to escape Madonna in the following months. Her tour starts off this August and in the meantime she'll be performing “Living For Love” and most certainly “Ghost Town” to get one radio hit off this record that is full of memorable moments. She's doing an entire week on Ellen starting this Monday.
There are very few songs on this album I would call misses, “Veni Vidi Vici” would be one of those. It's cringe worthy references to past hits is too much for a hardcore fan, but is still expertly crafted. Her song “Vogue” has once again been interpolated into a song (remember one of the final moments of “Deeper and Deeper) with an inclusion in the sexually explicit “Holy Water”.
I think that the deluxe edition is the version of this album you should buy. The standard ends on “Wash All Over Me”, which although a solid song does not anchor the album quite the way “Rebel Heart” does as a closing track.
If you love Madonna the way I do, of course you need the Super Deluxe edition, but you also didn't this article to remind you that the Queen is back. The Super Deluxe edition comes with a second disc of four new songs and two remixes of “Living For Love”. Similar to the way the MDNA album was set up. She is planning on tying ticket sales for the Rebel Heart Tour with the purchase of the album and that might be a more effective way of going about buying this album.
And, if I had to rate on a scale of 1 to 5 Bubbles, I'd give it a 4. Just a ½ bubble more then the rating Rolling Stone awarded it.
