With stirrup pants making a stylistic comeback (read here) it was only a matter of time before the term athleisure was being thrown around again. These clothes straddle the function of toning your body and easily adjusting into the work environment or a first day with a billionaire tycoon. Matriarch Donatella Versace made it a staple in the Versace runway shows this year. The couture collection at Paris was rife with it as was the magnificent Spring 2017 show in Milan. A show so fantastic a professor stopped me to ask if I'd seen the Versace show. |
The challenge worked exceptionally well. It's one of my favorite runways of the year, most of the best pieces were not surprisingly relegated to her supermodel muses: Naomi Campbell, the Hadid sisters, and Adriana Lima notably. Questions are already being raised as if this is the end of athleisure (it isn't), but with Chanel and Dior already having run through their phase of putting models in sneakers maybe there is some cause for alarm. Considering how little came of J.W. Anderson putting their male models in heels for their men's show in 2014 though, I wouldn't be too worried. |
