17 year old James Charles made waves when CoverGirl announced him as a new face in their ad campaign. Katy Perry made the easy breezy announcement and message boards flooded with their opinions. The question remaining at this point is he supposed to be referred to as a cover girl or a cover boy? He's the first male to join the legion of celebrities to market themselves for CoverGirl, a list that includes Christie Brinkley & Drew Barrymore. He's joining the growing trend in fashion to redefine masculinity. Men and women are conversely being thrown into traditionally opposite gender roled situations. I can't pretend I knew who he was before the news hit the timelines (although I did see the shoutout Zendaya gave him on twitter), but he's got a cult following that's growing into it's own substantial fanbase. There's nothing I love more then fucking up gender roles & it's nice to see a boy joining the high profile ranks of the culture shift. His make up might be over powering, but my coworker loves it & god knows his hand is steadier then mine ever will be. |
