And, while on the flight to Brussels I said to the flight attendant, "Hello. I need a bag to throw up in." (Hola! Necisito una bulsa de vomita!)
We stayed in a hostel for the weekend. I'm proud to say I've done it, but never again. It was nicer then expected, but sharing a room with 9 strangers is not for me. The shower was consistenly hot, if the water pressure was not good. Belgium is bigger then I expected. Apparently it's the size of Maryland (!) and I thought it was the size of Rhode Island, so that was a shock. Day 1 in Brussels was not good to us. Our flight left at six in the morning from and because the metro doesn't open until 5:00, Jodi and I bumbled around on the bus and got there at 3:30. Good news, we now know how to get there via bus. |
Day 2 involved all the traditional Belgian tourist activities. We bought chocolate, a friend had waffles (I bought some later), I got hot chocolate from Haagen Daaz because they have stand alone stores in Europe??? I did not succeed in getting French fries (or as they call them Belgian fries), but there are worse things that could happen. We saw the Cathedral of Saint Michael. The church is so long, that it took two pictures to get the entirety of the side. The inside is also very cool, but with many famous landmarks it did not photograph as well as one might hope We also saw the Brussels Town Hall together, which is pretty cool. There was a wedding taking place the day we were there. It's a super neat little square. They have a "flower carpet" in the center of the square every year and it's the largest in the world. It's dedicated to immigrants (?) I believe. |
