 | Lisbon is probably one of my favorite cities I've been to in Europe. Someday I would love to go back and see other parts of their country. It was amazing on every level. We went to a castle the first day, which was pretty cool. Not a lot of history to it. Really, it was more of the "old city" of Lisbon. Very neat, but not the coolest castle I've seen in Europe. However. They had peacocks, which I initially thought were feral cats, because the only thing I could hear was them screaming! |
Friday had hectic weather. It was raining and there was wind and then it stopped raining and it was miserably hot, but it allowed for us to take aesthetic photos with limited locals and tourists in the photos which I think is a win. We went to the Lisbon Cathedral (left) next and the funniest thing about it was that we had already gone inside on our way up to the Castle, but such is life. Not the best Cathedral I've been into in Europe, but it's not too shabby either. After that we went over to the Carmo Convent (right). Nuns used to lived there, but during the great Lisbon earthquake the roof of the monastery collapsed and they never raised the funds to fix it. It was a very cool building.

We saw Rossio Square that day and you would think at this point I would be underwhelmed by ALL the squares in Europe. But, there were blooming lilac trees, fountains, a cool obelisk. Flowers were everywhere in Lisbon and it was so beautiful.
| Saturday involved us taking buses, which I am just not a fan of. They were crowded and at one point we even took this trolley, which although an iconic thing to do in Lisbon, was not my definition of "fun". Public transport is a blessing, but at the same time, metros are really the only ones I enjoy using. That day we started out with the Belem Tower, which was much smaller in person then I expected it to be. Took some pictures with the 25 De Abril Bridge The bridge also looked almost exactly like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. After that we went to the Berardo Collection (free on Saturday's) and saw some modern art. They had a section on Dadaism, which I personally enjoy because the whole concept of that movement was "is this even art?" and I think that's fantastic. Modern art is wild, because it basically runs the gauntlet of "that's really cool" to "I don't even know what to make of this". I'm a fan of Lisbon
