| With The Gilmore Girls returning for a reboot the day after Thanksgiving it's time for a brief run through of what was a successful seven year run. The Gilmore Girls were fast talking, Connecticut girls, full of pop culture references, and mother-daughter love. I do have a confession to make. I was never the biggest supporter of Rory (Alexis Biedel). She was for all intensive purposes, a brat. I'm currently rewatching and binging as best I can, although I've only made steady progress through season one. It's funny. Season one predicates that Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory never keep secrets from each other and yet that is the source of tension the entire season. Rory's coming of age is chronicled throughout the show, season 7 ending with her covering the campaign trail for the 2008 election. |   |
Lorelai is the trouble child of Richard and Emily Gilmore, and Rory is the wed locked child that resulted from Lorelai's rebel years. Emily (Kelly Bishop) is the over bearing, but well intentioned mother who just wants the best for her daughter, if the best is bougie and upper class.
The show features the quirky townspeople of Stars Hollow. It can be argued that The Gilmores Girls was the breakthrough role for Melissa McCarthy. She played Sookie, head chef of the Dragonfly Inn and Lorelai's best friend. The show is littered with memorable moments and memorable boys. Dean? Logan? Luke? Christopher? All white boys names and all significant love interests worth putting the DVR on for. The Gilmore Girls will return and with it, my childhood.
