The second part of a three part series focuses on the concept of “voguing”. Where Vogue is a magazine, to vogue, is a dance. Voguing gained traction in the Harlem part of New York City during the eighties, however the dance had been around since the 1960's The dance is all about precision, symmetry. It's graceful and if it's done correctly- it's art. There are three regarded versions of voguing: the “old way”, the “new way”, and “Vogue Fem”. The “old way” involved two dancers “dueling” with one another by pinning the other with their body. The “new way” has been described as incorporating mime elements. A dancer may for instance, pretend to put on makeup. And, Vogue Fem is the most dramatic, relying heavily on exaggerated feminine movements. |
