Mariah Carey was one of the commercial juggernauts of the 90's and continued her success well into the late 2000's. It's hard to compile all of her relevant chart history, so I decided to focus on her number ones. Mariah Carey is the solo artist with the most number ones (18), trailing only The Beatles with 20.

Lead single “Vision of Love” became a staple part of her arsenal and a clear inspiration for the American Idol way of singing a ballad. She'd gone a studio album and a soundtrack without a number one hit (the horror). “We Belong Together” was the biggest song of the 2000's and every single one of us still tries to hit that high note at the end. | E=MC² (2008) Her last studio album to feature a chart topper, “Touch My Body” had a playfully fun music video featuring everyone's favorite nerd Jack McBrayer. It's also possible it partially inspired the lyrics in Ariana Grande's new single, “Into You” who's chorus features the lyrics, “a little less conversation and a little more touch my body.” It's hard to say if this is Mariah Carey's last chart topper, but I wouldn't count her out just yet. Madonna has pulled through and certainly she can to. All it takes is one hit to capture the public's imagination and we all know she can deliver. Who knows. She might even have the biggest hit of the decade yet. |  |
