A lot of great things come to mind when you think of the word “woody”. Toy Story, a boys first erection. And, then somewhere in the back of your mind you think about that director Woody Allen.
Recently, I had the chance to see his play Bullets Over Broadway. I didn't go. Musicals although wonderful are not my favorite thing. The play received polarizing reviews. As all Woody Allen projects do and no part of me wanted to take time to experience his creations. |
I must admit that I've seen a number of his film and enjoyed them. I am also pretentious and he plays into that quite well.
He's made a million movies. He's not a Steven Spielberg type of director. He pummels these movies out. They are rarely ever blockbusters, although some do quite well for themselves. And, almost all of them are award magnets. The one that stands out the most to me is Midnight in Paris. It was romantic fantasy, Owen Wilson was there. It's one of those fleeting movies that you feel like it will stick with you, but it really only gives you that aura that it will. It gives you a warm air of wasted time. |
I say all of this to say that Woody Allen is an icon and a legend of cinema. And despite all of that you should not support him or his vast collection of narrative films.
Hollywood continues to support a man who molested his daughter. He molested a child and we're supposed to forget about it and just “enjoy his art”. I feel no such inclination. I agree with Susan Sarandon when she said, “I have nothing good to say about Woody Allen, so I don’t think we should go there. I think he sexually assaulted a child and I don’t think that’s right.” |
Dylan Farrow should not be silenced, because Woody Allen is a “legend”. His art and his work as far as I'm concerned is dead to me. I have nothing nice to say about this man. What reason do you have to not support Dylan Farrow. Everyone should be Team Dylan. She deserves at least that much.
Violent, abusive men are so often given a pass, because of their “talent”. There's something so fundamentally wrong with that. Woody Allen is a child rapist. That is the only thing he deserves to be remembered for. Nothing more and nothing less. more and nothing less. |
