| There are two Christina Aguilera songs that have gone down in the history of ICONIC pop moments. Debut “Genie In A Bottle” and the infamously nasty “Dirrty”. A song so provocative one r wasn't enough. Kylie Jenner paid homage to the “Dirrty” music video this Halloween in case we needed more evidence of it's impact on pop music. “Dirrty” is the song that reintroduced Christina Aguilera as the sexual deviant next door. Where Britney Spears sexual transformation came with time, Christina was the product of taking control of her career too young, too soon. |  |
It's not an understatement to say that “Dirrty” almost ruined Xtina's career. Where Britney came across as the all American girl partying a little too hard at college, Christina came across as the village tramp, Dolly Parton was so inspired by. The combination of the harsh hip hop stylings, filthy lyrics, gritty visual treatment, and it's parent album's Stripped finding her breasts covered by nothing then her hair, caused a knee jerk reaction to middle American values.

Coupled with the lesbian MTV triad of Britney and Madonna, it's a good thing Christina's tongue to tongue action wasn't shown on TV. The song and accompanying music video misrepresented Stripped as a whole to Christina's detriment, but it was a powerful assertion of what she wanted to be able to do with her career.

The release of stark ballad “Beautiful” was a successful attempt by her record label to fix the damage imposed by the “Dirrty” rampage. The song was not left to the Stripped era. It found itself as the starting point for the critical diss track “Still Dirrty” from her Back To Basics album. She states that “if she wants to be erotic in her own videos (…) that ain't a sin”. Her fanbase wouldn't have it any other way.
