The only thing missing in action is M.I.A on the charts. Ever since her one hit smash “Paper Planes” took over the charts, she's been sorely missing across the world's radio. Maybe the glossy political edge she adds to her music was too much for radio programmers at the time.
M.I.A is everyone's favorite British recording artist. She's at least our favorite British rapper. I dare you to name anyone besides her. In a music industry solely lacking female MC's at the top of their game, M.I.A has always murdered the game. |
I don't know what made me think of her recently. It was probably when I was jamming out to her song “Bad Girls”. This is one of those songs, everyone knows, but they don't know. I swear there was a time in 2012, where I swear it was in every movie.
That video was also to fucking die for. She's riding on tilted cars. Doing sexy shit. Being awesome, letting out her rhymes. M.I.A is tragically underrated. |
The last time M.I.A made waves is when she flipped America off at the Super Bowl. She out shined the queen of attention, Madonna at her own game. I bet Madonna was pissed. Although, I'm sure the gold certification of MDNA and it's lead single “Give Me All Your Luvin'” helped to clear up that bad air.
If you remember “Give Me All Your Luvin'”, then you remember that Nicki Minaj and M.I.A were the features. They looked good as hell in that music video. All that good girl power and sex and cleavage. You also know that it was definitely in question whether Nicki Minaj out staged M.I.A or whether is was the other way around. M.I.A slurred those words and fucked shit up. They were the highlight of that song. |
There's never been a drop in M.I.A's artistic vision or her ability to carry it through. She's gotten better with age, and it seems hardly likely she needed Diplo's janky way at making hits to begin with. Latest album Matangi is straight gold. Her ability to mix social justice messages with melody is unparallelled.
It seems hardly fair that M.I.A has beauty and intelligence. Those Sri Lankian bloodlines did her well. The woman is in her forties and still looking better then me. |
