I can't say that the song has reinvented the concept of what electronic dance music is. It certainly hasn't, but to say it isn't a bop would be fooling yourself.

In the world of EDM (and music at large) it's a male dominated landscape. The A-List DJ's are all male. Skrillex, Diplo, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Giorgio Moroder, etc. The list is endless XY chromosome plated, with only Paris Hilton and Nervo to break the monotony.
 | Her single hit number one on June 18th on the Dance/Club Songs Chart becoming Ghali's first chart topper. This particular chart measures the play of songs by professional DJ's in a tracking week. “Under These Lights” is a song that Xenia Ghali lyrically describes as speaking about “the importance of unity and love amongst all of us. It depicts a very optimistic and euphoric message.” A message that's being reverberated in the music community after prolonged worldwide violence and unrest. |
| The track interestingly enough finds the DJ playing with vocal processes. It sounds as if there are two distinct voices, but it's in fact the singular voice of Ethan Thompson rearranged by Ghali. His name was left off the official credits due to his personal style in music clashing with the mdma laced world of EDM. Xenia Ghali is a great representation of what women can do in the music world if their allowed to join the game. “Under These Lights” is one of the crowning Dance songs of the year. She has her own independent record label, charmingly titled “Funky Sheep” and if there's one thing I know for sure, is that the world needs more funky sheep. You can find her remixing songs for international hitmaker Pitbull, remixing his top forty collaboration with Chris Brown “Fun”. She's also released two singles off his 305 Record Label. “Broken” featuring Katt Rockell and “Get Dirty” with Wyclef Jean, you might remember for his verse on Shakira's “Hips Don't Lie” |   |
It's hard to tell if she's going to become a household name of EDM. She hasn't had a radio hit yet and she hasn't dated Taylor Swift. All things that bode against her becoming a trending hashtage worldwide.
You can find her at festivals, performing at Color Day, River Party, DreamWorld, and Lake Party just to name a few. She's got a dance charting song and according to AOL she's about to “dominate the US market”. What reason do you have not to see her?
