Who is Fancy?
This was the question no one really cared about. I didn't know who Fancy was. I hadn't asked myself the question. I wasn't even informed of this man. Then, one day I'm scrolling through my twitter and I see Ariana posting about “Boys Like You” Initially, I ignore it. I will hear it when I hear it. Then, I have this building anticipation. Who is Fancy? I'm doing my research. Waiting for November, 23rd. The day “Boys Like You” is released. The career blossoming song featuring heavy weights Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor on the verses. |
There's some clear influence from David Bowie and Boy George. Icons of gays past. Now, whether or not musically they've directed him remains in question.
His debut single “Goodbye” could easily have been a Hunter Hayes song and if Fancy wasn't an up and coming gay artist, he probably could have made his way onto country airwaves. The song is breezy. I heard it quite a few times on the radio before I found out who Fancy was. |
2015 has been a great gay year. Same sex marriage has been legalized. We all knew Sam Smith was gay as fuck, even before he won that Grammy. But, we haven't had an explicitly song of gay love on the radio. There's some fear of how well this will be received at radio. Even, if the song is distilled with 2/3 of heterosexuality.
I think Fancy is in good hands. He's got Scooter Braun as his manager. The man behind Justin Bieber and Korean sensation PSY. And, as disgusting as it is, he has the support of Dr. Luke to bolster his career. |
