Generally when I do a Snapshot Saturday on a single song it's in order to bring awareness to a new song and it's corresponding music video (ala Fergie “LA Love”, and Gwen Stefani “Baby Don't Lie”). Both of Hilary Duff's latest singles “Chasing The Sun” and “All About You” have been featured.

Now from her fourth album's tentative release date of October, 2014 to an unknown time in 2015. I have been restless. There is no news of a new single and I think it's safe to say her record label is finished promoting “All About You”. The time we get new Hilary music should be in about March to April. That's going to be around the time she'll be promoting her new show on TV Land, Younger. Remind me to tell you more about that show. It sounds fantastic.
I was just drifting through the archives of Hilary Duff, I shamelessly have all of her albums, and I was just jamming out to “Reach Out”. It was the lead single to her second greatest hits album and let me tell you. There is no reason that Hilary Duff needed two greatest hits. |

She has had songs you can call hits, but they were more hits for people who grew up with her on Disney Channel. Needless to say “Reach Out” under performed.
But, sitting there listening to “Reach Out”, I remembered that music video, and I was all set to do a Throwback Thursday. Then, I realized part of the reason I was doing an article on this song, was because of how aesthetically catching the material was. |
The song is catchy. Ryan Tedder (the man behind One Republic) had his thumb in it. Apparently it samples this song called “Personal Jesus” and the main line in the chorus is “reach out and touch me.” While the Depeche Mode version said “reach out and touch faith”.
I just love it. It's dirty and messy and good. When, Hilary did her third album, Dignity, she had her hair dark all of the songs were mature and upbeat. Only one song kind of received radio play. So, with her greatest hits she was like let me sex this up. Her hair went back to blonde, she was trying to pull off a tame Miley Cyrus.
It didn't succeed. I can't imagine if it did. People called her a slut in the “Chasing The Sun” video for wearing a bikini. They obviously haven't seen “Reach Out”. Reading youtube comments is funny, because they rarely make sense. Like, I'm sorry a grown woman is wearing a bikini on the beach in her music video? That's a slut now? I just don't get it.
The music video is everything you want. There's some half naked people running around. Hilary sucks on her thumb suggestively. Her hands are tied. There's a rapper named Prophet making his ugly appearance. Hilary fondles some food, rubs her hands all up and down the back of some sexy shirtless man. It's all good fun. |

This song came out about six years ago. In that time she got married, had a child, got divorced. Actually, they might still be separated. I'm not sure. Needless to say with the promotion of her new album she has decided to remain in the scope of maturity. That said we haven't heard the latest material. Hilary needs to get on this. It is going on seven years since I've had new Hilary music and that just isn't working for me.
