Charm Like A Leprechaun

A few weeks ago I tweeted “am I the only one who is oddly attracted to Jidenna?” Someone replied back to me that everyone was.

Now if you don't know who Jidenna is that's fine. He's one of the new young bloods in the world of R&B. Young might be stretching it. He's thirty years old and his fashion sense gives him an air of an educated gentleman. Of course Katy Perry is thirty and she's pandering to a younger crowd.

Jidenna is a singer most well known for his current top forty hit “Classic Man” that features a verse by Roman GianArthur. This song is such a bop. If you haven't been listening to rap radio, you've missed out on this song. It's retro and current and a smooth listen. Much like it's lead artist Jidenna.

The look that Jidenna embodies is what makes him the perfect candidate to carry “Classic Man”. The man is always dressed to the nines. If he was wearing sweats or some basketball shorts, I don't know if I would be as attracted as I am to him. He has this style that's masculine, but well put together. If he doesn't make style lists at the end of the year I don't know what is wrong with the world.

Justin Timberlake addressed the attraction of the suit and tie. Honestly, Jidenna is just proving him right. In the words of Beyonce, “god damn, god damn!” Jidenna is right up there with my male style icons. I've always wanted my professional attire to be modeled off of RuPaul, but now I'm not so sure.

Jidenna is just so sly and sophisticated. And, it is the differentiation he has between him and other males in the industry that's making his voice come through. Just compare him and Kendrick Lamar in the video for the “Classic Man” remix. These are two totally different breeds in rap music, and Jidenna comes across as an individual voice where others do not. 

I'm also feeling his beard. It's just good. Facial hair is not usual the love of my life. Saying that I have crushed on multiple a men with beards, but it's not a turn off. It's just a yes across the board. The man is also Stanford educated. That's always a plus. A million dollar voice and an Ivy League education. This is the kind of man you can bring home for dinner.

I might have a new celebrity crush and by might, I mean I do. 

Right now we don't have any information on when or if an album of solo material is coming out this year. His breakout hit is featured on The Eephus. The EP was released by Wondaland in August. It was modeled much after Young Money Cash Money's group albums and features works by artists signed to Janelle Monae's record label Wondaland. 

Jidenna appears on 4 of the 6 tracks. All six are solid listens, but singles “Classic Man” and “Yoga” are certainly the highlights of the EP. Earlier this year I wrote on Janelle Monae and how beautiful and accomplished she is. I just want you to know that “Yoga” has me completely reevaluating her solo career and I'm digging deeper. This is some good shit.

I'm excited to hear more from Jidenna and see how he grows as an artist. Clearly he's a favorite of Janelle Monae's and it's not hard to see why.
