In regards to music, Jennifer Lopez has always been one of my first loves, right up there with Sheryl Crow and Hilary Duff. It’s a somewhat odd eclectic group of people, but there were the basis for my childhood somewhere between balladeers Celine Dion and Bette Midler.

Jennifer Lopez is one of the most important Latin artists in the United States. She’s a triple threat, fly girl, singer, actress. The fact that she happens to be completely gorgeous is truly a side note.
Let’s not forget that even after having publicly flaunted her relationship with Ben Affleck and declaring that “she’s real” and that she’s still “Jenny from the block” that Miss aching Lopez is estimated to be worth $300 million dollars. Truly just pocket change. |

Jennifer Lopez took a step out of the spotlight for a minute near the middle of the 2000’s. She wanted to be Mom™. We all thought she was gone and then she came back and murdered our souls with “On The Floor”. Only one of the biggest songs of 2011.
She even has that fantastic glittering collection of clothes at Kohls. Although, I see those $80 throw pillows for her bedding collection. I see you J. Lo. I see you. |

This year has seen Jennifer Lopez on the upswing. She started her Vegas residency, to unanimous critical acclaim. There were a few years where critics claimed she was a “studio singer” and couldn’t deliver “live”. A same critique made at Mariah during her nineties heyday. Not that they claimed Jennifer was a good singer to begin with.

And, yet here they both are delivering the goods every Saturday night in Las Vegas. Critics are always harsh to point out Jennifer’s limited vocal range, despite her always-pleasant radio friendly vibes, and the sweeping ballads of her debut album On The 6.
Miss Jennifer Lopez also recently released her latest anthem, “Ain’t Your Mama”. It was cowritten by current radio darling Meghan Trainor and is a solid beautiful lightweight feminist anthem. The music video harkens back through decades of male oppression and if it doesn’t make you want to unplug your man’s xbox, I don’t know what will. |

It’s too early to see if it’s another hit to add to the Jennifer Lopez arsenal, but it certainly deserves to be. The only problems it might receive in drawing radio play are all directly tied to her age and sexism. Her talent is still the same and the music is still pulling through.

2016 saw Miss Lopez end American Idol on a muted banger and start a new melodrama on NBC Shades of Blue. And, is she back to take over contemporary radio? That remains to be seen.
